Suppose Cam is done for 2019

Recommended Posts

God forbid but Cam has hidden his ailments before.  If this injury affects his play, what next?

Do we rely on Allen to get us through?

Sign a Veteran?.... please don't say CK.

Or let Grier, the Rookie, gain valuable experience?

I for one think we sign a veteran.  This team is too talented to leave to a rookie.   If Allen can handle it, but most of you think he can't.

Who do we sign?

He would have finished the game had it been the regular season.

I’d point to our game vs the saints dec 30th, 2011 as to how friggin tough that guy is.  Took a nasty fall on his ankle in that game, missed 4 plays, came back in and led his team to a 44-33 win in the dome.

Cam is a warrior.

Guys I agree Cam is by far and I mean by far the toughest QB in the game and probably to ever play the QB position.

And yes this is hypothetical but you're not answering the question.

What do you think our best course of action is, IF HE CAN'T go?

If he can’t go then we should all bet the farm on rams to cover.

We were looking for a good reason to sit Cam until the season began. That tweak of his foot was plenty and I'm sure the trainers said, "Let's get that boot on you and let the next game and a half just play out."

Cam will light it up on opening day. Quit worrying.

If Cam cannot go, here is the decision--do you sign a aged veteran and go for six wins or do you develop a young QB and get four?

To me, the answer is simple:  You develop the young guy and draft a qb with the third overall pick.

This is what the "Cam is God" crowd here does not seem to understand.  Cam has taken tremendously damaging shots.  Statistically, a RB peaks at age 27 and his production drops off dramatically each year following.  The body blows start taking their toll--physically and mentally.  A good YOUNG RB explodes into the defense and gets a few yards after being hit---a good OLD RB has excellent vision and uses his head to avoid contact.  Cam plays the game like a good young RB.  If so, his body is at least a year or two past its prime.

Lately, he is avoiding running (preseason) but when the game is real, he will instinctively run.  Without the run threat, how effective is Cam? To make matters worse, I think the panthers skimped on OL figuring Cam could evade the rush with his athleticism--what was STOOPID was giving him tall, slow, never-open WRs because he threw high.  That was dumbest move possible, because Cam was throwing high when his rhythm was interrupted.  When he dropped, planted, and threw, he was accurate.  When he was dodging LBs and waiting for KB and Funchess to make their breaks, it threw off the rhythm.  This is hard to see on TV, but live?  It was obvious.

Cam is now a leader--he does not pout like he did, he is trying to get fundamentally sound--only after shoulder surgery.

Fear of future injuries are not the biggest threat to Cam--it is the long-term impact of those in the past.  Did he ignore mechanics because of his supporting cast or was he denied the opportunity to use them because of his supporting cast.

Cam will be in the $35-40m range next contract at age 31.  I would not give him a $200m deal.  I would pay him the one-year tag deal and let him go at age 32.  We cannot predict how long he will play, but guaranteeing him money after all he has been through is going to be a tough call.  Hurney will do it, if he is here, but I would not.

I think Ron would bring in a Vet. I'd roll with Allen or Grier depending on who looks better in practice. Not to be doom and gloom, but I don't think Cam will make it through this season with this O-line.

If he keep holding the ball for 5 or 6 seconds he wouldn't be safe behind any offensive line

    • I'll be honest.  I'm not sure I want to see any those guys returning right now given what others are presently doing.... minus Coker.  Hubbard returning likely messes the run game up (I mean, it's going to come down regardless but he still), Tremble and Evans actually are doing well, Corbett seems to make us worse up front, and the D has made some strides.  I'd like to just keep that whole lot on the shelf this week.
    • I don't think people know that Icky is still only 25 years old. Panthers signed UDFAs older this year and drafted DJ Johnson. Heres a fact, a deep fact.... Its easier(much) to find a good-great QB than good-great LT. Another fact there's only 12-15 true LTs and the others are larping as LT.  SO....(I'm not a fan btw)......you nearly must resign him at all cost even with him being around the 12th best at times. Its the hardest spot to fill and he's still awful young with 4 years as a pro. Carolina already got 4 years of "cheap" service as well, that's invested time and effort.  The fan-side of me hopes he signs some top 5 at best top 3 big money deal. Just the cap keeps growing and LTs, young LT with experience are rrrrrrare and unique. Tag him if needed and tag him again, then trade him. I think he enjoys being/living in NC.  I hope he's stays on a team friendly deal, but those are soooo rare these days.  Only two options- pay him whatever, even if it's top $$$$$(uggggghhhh..) or tag him for 2027 and keep trying to pay. Worst outcome is trading him for couple 1s, 3s, and 5th maybe a player too.
    • I always loved DJ Moore.  I don't see him wanting to comeback here.  He seems to be tired of inconsistent QB play and you finally see that bubbling over in Chicago.  or maybe he just doesn't like the people.  He actually seemed fine with Fields.....and lobbied for them not to draft Caleb.  So maybe it's just a Caleb issue (and I think Caleb might have tons of baggage/issues that rub folks wrong)
