"It was a complete pass but was incomplete"

Yeah, they fuged us, but Rivera still effing up.  So tired of the same old poo.  If we played with a killer mentality, we wouldn't need the refs to make all of the tight calls.  Instead, it's always the SSDD.  Rivera plays soft, conservative football and refs the refs to do him a favor....  and time and again, they poo on us at every turn.

Ron challenged that it was a complete pass, which it was. Even if they let the Rams keep the ball, we shouldnt have lost the time out

See, that's the thing. If it was a reception then they would then have to rule that it was a fumble. The review team in NY saw this right away. I think it was ingenious on their part to so quickly find a way to weasel themselves out of it by saying that 'it wasn't a fumble because we can't see where his knee was when the ball came out.' All the focus of the broadcasters and fans was on completion/possession, being as that was the challenge. Knowing this, they knew they could sneak the knee thing past us. I think this is why they took so long.

What is conspicuous to me is that the broadcasters never showed the replay again once the final judgement had been made, to see what 'the knee thing' was all about. They were completely silent on the matter as soon as that perplexing ruling was made. But yes, since the challenge was made about whether it was a complete pass or not, then the ruling that it was a complete pass meant that the Panthers should not have been charged a time out.

If NY want's to "move the goal posts," so to speak, on why it was still 'not a fumble' then fine, but charging a bogus time out to the Panthers for a technically upheld challenge was the most egregious thing about this whole fiasco.

That was a bad call, but not as bad as the backwards pass call... by it's measure just about any ball batted by a lineman could be considered a lateral then. The original pass was moving forward (slightly, but still forward) before it was deflected. It should have just been incomplete with a pass-defensed tick for the lineman.

What is the rule on that?

pass was definitely moving forward before it was tipped

"In American football and Canadian football, a lateral pass or lateral (officially backward pass in American football and onside pass in Canadian football) occurs when the ball carrier throws the football to a teammate in a direction parallel to or away from the opponents' goal line. "

The problem with challenging these things is you need clear, undisputed evidence to overrule the call on the field.  Couple of things that stand out:

The play is out of shotgun, and the ref on the sideline is at the line of scrimmage.  Terrible angle to make the call.  The ref in the end zone did see it was a tipped ball but he's not making the call on if it's a lateral pass.

In the screenshot, I circled the ball.  Maybe you will see something different but it seems impossible to tell for me from this angle.  In that case, the ruling on the field stands.

There were  plenty of chances to win that game

blame the coaches and blame cam for not executing when needed

that’s the fact

big  time players  in make big time games make big plays

no true down field passing

on the few times they tried they did have some completions   Newton standing there with no rolling in the picket didn’t help

maybe they will improve this year and maybe they won’t

if they beat the hapless Bucs, good for them  but the better teams, nope  outcoached  out played
