It week 2 he still looks the same

The staff looks hesitant of him

Teams have figured him out like Tampa and will stack the box and force him to hit shots down field in man coverage no help, where he hasnt shown he could in 2 seasons.

Yes its still early but the alarms have been going off and the signs have been pointing not positive

The catch here is that he has been coached to put more air under the ball on deeper throws.  That is generally a good practice, since it gives the receivers a chance to run under the ball.  But developing that touch does not happen overnight.  Combine that with an offseason focus on his throwing motion in general, and I would have been surprised to see him come out early and complete 70% of his passes.  Now add the recovery process and time he could not throw after the clean-out surgery.  It is a perfect storm.

Am I concerned?  You bet.  But I did see zip on some of his short passes and his long passes, while most were inaccurate, were at least long passes.  There are just too many variables in this equation to determine anything for certain at this point…..other than perhaps it is taking the coaching staff by surprise.  But that does not shock me, either.

If he does not show any improvement over the next 4-6 weeks, we are in trouble at the QB position.

Read an article the other day in which Geoff Swartz was also talking about this.  He said if the Panthers do not make the playoffs there will be changes at GM and Head coach.  And because of that the team will not strap a new coach with Cam on the final year of his contract.  He said for the 2 mil they would cut him and let the rebuilding begin.

You act like we are the Dolphins etc where the whole cupbard is bare

No CMC, no Moore, No Samuel, no Bradberry, no Burns (who's looked promising), no Trai Turner, no Luke

We have Pieces and bringing in a new QB with the guys arkund wont be like what your saying

He11 look at the Eagles with Wents and Rams with Goff

Oh yeah?

Remind me how often it has been over the years including even as recent as 2017 that Newton was the engine that could often dragging the whole team, those pieces you mentioned included, across the finish line for this team to have a chance at even sniffing the postseason.

You think that kind of transcendent talent is walking through the door again anytime soon?

It'd sure be nice, but that isn't how life works.

2017 was 2 Freaking years ago

The collapse started last year in 2018 and has continued into 2019

And litterally everyone has pointed out that CMC has become the engine.  Litterally look at the Rams game where we said "we played them close"  thats because CMC had one of the best weeks out of any player in the whole league.

Quite a few of those pieces i mentioned werw kn year 1 or 2 last year and just starting to thrive

I know itll be hard, its like watching Smitty leave.  But sometimes you have to rip the bandaid off and move on no matter how much we scream and cry how much we love him

We can’t really say that teams have figured him out. Week 2. Now if the whole season goes like this, you have a case but I’m not ready to give up on our franchise QB after being injured and shows rust over 2 games( in the same week). It’s hard to find a franchise QB . This once MVP may still have something in the tank but let’s see what happens first. Side note, I am not comfortable with any of the backups we have. Let’s see how the season pans off. Who knows we may win 9 straight or that may not happen. The thing is, we don’t know: I see a lot of people acting like our season was over. Both games we were in there until the end. Sadly we are 0-2 though but I believe there is a run in us that is coming up. Keep pounding

The beginning of the collapse in 2018 had nothing at all to do with us running Cam into the ground the year before where he was basically throwing to practice squad receivers? Yet somehow he still took us within a few plays of defeating the Saints in New Orleans.

In 2017 we drafted a running back in the top 10, and Newton was still our leading rusher. How did our run game look against the lowly Bucs on Thursday night? Where was that engine you mention?

I get it, you're fed up. But sit back a bit and process.

I am under no confusion about the possibility that Newton may be done as a Panther. But I'm not as confused about how we got here as you seem to be. I think you need a break.

Cam has lost 9 straight games because he can't throw the deep ball consistently enough. Till that's fixed teams will do what they did last season and play one safety deep and stack the box. This isn't a new problem,  this is problem that Cam has had for a few years now, if your being honest with yourself, it started after his first surgery on his shoulder.

If you've stopped believing in the QB then just stop watching. Follow another team. It's that simple.

Why?  I was a fan long before Cam was ever here.   Should you go follow another team if you no longer believe in our head coach?

I have loved watching Cam as a Panther since he arrived. His joy on the field has been not only infectious to his teammates, but to me as a fan. You could just see how much he loved playing. Watching him run down the field with a literal smile on his face sometimes was priceless. I'll never forget the fun of the 15-1 season. You could tell everyone on the team was having so much fun, and Cam was the nucleus around which all that energy revolved. (Man I wish it ended like it should have!)

But, things do change. For whatever reason, that spice seems to be missing. I'm not talking about actual performance necessarily - just how he presents on the field. I hope he gets it back.

Having said that, as much as I love Cam, decisions have to be made. You have to build a balanced roster, and a big part of that is how you allocate funds within the constraints of the cap. You've got to decide if player X is worth X dollars in the big picture. Is Cam - as he currently appears - worth a massive investment and significant percentage of your resources going forward? That's a big question that will have to be answered, and how Cam performs the rest of the way this season will probably be the answer to that question. He's auditioning for another contract imo.

One of the prior criticisms of Newton was that his passes tended to have a fairly flat arc.

That's not terribly unusual for fireball slingers, honestly. Pretty sure Brett Favre had the same thing (at least early on).

Look how serious Tom Brady is about the game. It doesn't look fun to him. He looks like a stone cold killer in the 4th quarter. He only looks happy holding up the trophies.

IMHO Cam has lacked that consistent killer mentality. Brady has it. Rodgers has it. Jordan had it. Kobe had it.

He has to look himself in the mirror and tell himself this isn't fun. This isn't a game. You sir are a professional and this is WAR.

If Cam could adopt Brady's work ethic & focus it would be scary how good he could be.

I don't think anyone here cares what a pal of Jangler thinks. That's not even mentioning how often you've conveniently gone missing around here.
