Derek Anderson , Damian Lewis talks about Cam

I'm saying this. We may win with another QB, but when CAM retires from football I will be retiring as a fan. I can not continue to watch a sport that set out to derail a guy just because he would not conform. NFL has become a one-sided business. Nflpa is a joke. NFL is just rigged all the way around. Play by their rules or get taken out with conclusions and random supposedly drug test that by the way always pick you out of hundreds of others. Yea right!

I’m starting to think we should have sat Cam maybe the first two games of the season. Hell we lost them anyway and he might be fully healed by now.

Newton should have been sitting a lot earlier last season than he did.

Why that didn't happen last year is the same reason he didn't sit to start this season.

Unfortunately, I do not believe this to be the case.

Once again, you are hearing what you want to hear, not what you are seeing with your own two eyes.

Cam's foot and ankle are banged up....but the shoulder is as well...and I don't see that magically "healing"...just like it hasn't done in a couple of years.

The ankle is the icing, but the cake is the shoulder.  Unless Cam chooses to take a LONG break from the NFL and work on that shoulder and his mechanics, I don't think that you will ever see that player again.

I have been saying for over 2 seasons now....we need to see the long ball, we need for Cam to not be limited, we need to see him make it through a full season and offseason without surgery or hearing the terms "new normal" and "pitch count", but alas, here we are.  Got called a lot of names for questioning that shoulder around here, and saw a lot of posters with their fingers in their ears, or their head in the sand.

Did they have any insight/opinion on whether or not Cam is truly focused on the game or loves football anymore?

It's pretty damn easy to see if you look.

We aren't winning, Cam likes to win.

We can't surround him with a competent O Line.

He is hurt and cannot do the things that set him apart and make him great.

He is 30 now.  With age comes a fair amount of wisdom.

He is wealthy, and a family man now.  With children comes a different outlook on life.

Unless you are having the time of your life, football as you get older just isn't nearly as enjoyable, especially if pain is here knocking you in the brain all day long.

I don't blame him at all, were I in his shoes, I would have already had my agent prepare my paperwork for this offseason.

hey mr scot, our record has also gone down with cam's loss of ability.  i get your point about marty but in this case i think its a confounding variable.  i think the real cause is cam's injuries.  to me - a lot of that is on rivera and both gm's for not getting us the best line in football. its always been an after thought.  'skill' players become superstars because of offensive lines.  fire everyone but chase 'passion' blackburn

If Cam can’t play properly until mid season then we will be 1-7 and there will no longer be a need to play him at all but nope Ronnie The Destroyer of talent will march him out there in a bid to save his own ass and fug him up for 2020 and beyond.

I hope in that case that Tepper steps in and forces Rivera not to play him.  If that happens, the only hope for a good 2020 for Cam is to let him rest and rehab. That also makes sense if you want to trade Cam.

As a Falcons fan, I'm OK with the panthers not being a factor in the NFCS this year. As a fellow football fan, I feel for the real fans here, looks like you guys have a real mess here and  I don't see it turning around this year.

Yep, I said 2 years ago when the shoulder became an issue that he would never be the same and likely not even close. I’ve known a dozen or so everyday people have shoulder issues and they never returned to the old self.  Cam is not your everyday guy, he’s a professional QB expected to perform at a high level.  I really think his shoulder is shot and he’s realizing it and that is the reason for his depression.

Definitely hope Newton heals quicker than that. By midseason, we could potentially be in a really bad spot.

Agree with moving Darryl Williams, but not replacing him with Greg Little.

I agree...Moton. I don’t even see why it’s a hard choice. Daryl Williamscan play Right Tackle or Little can learn there if he can’t ...one move and boom instantly better

    • Its completely and utterly bootlicking at this point.  If you cannot acknowledge that using 3 picks on a rb with a torn acl in the 2nd round isnt a bad pick then you simply havent a clue about football.  Sorry man it is what it is.  And its insanely laughable you are trying to strawman this argument using other players.  And what fuging facts are you bringing that is justifing morgan using 3 goddamn picks on him?  I cannot wait to hear that.
    • Scourton's interviews are telling to me that it's only a matter of time before he could really put it together.  His limitation tool-wise that I see is in his bend, but at the leaner size, it looks like it wasn't a problem at Purdue.   He has a good moveset and reads leverages very well (vet level well).  Plays both the speed/quickness (great change of direction) and has a power game with good hand usage.  Moves from what I've seen in my digs: I'm seeing cross-chop, fake crossers into bull, bull rush, spin (his preferred move of choice), hand shuck.  He's not unrefined by any means.   If he can do 2 things---I'm feeling confident from seeing his interviews that we have a real dude on our hands: 1) Diversifying his moveset/how it's deployed - Over-reliant on some, but again, he has a growing palette.  And is already great with his hands so things are in-place to coach up. 2) Developing a counter moveset and starting to play the chess game with an OT - He's very good at reading leverage, knowing when to change things up during a play.  But NFL coaching should start to teach him how to really create a plan based on an opponent.  What to throw at a guy first, how to confuse with fakes/counters, etc.  How to play against these tackles as a game progresses.   Overall, he has some things that give me serious optimism: Run Defense, speed moves, power moves, he's super young and has the size/length.  When you really spell it all out, I think we should get excited.  Temper expectations from a stat sheet standpoint, but he should be able to go in and make an impact.
