Cam derangement syndrome is a real thing

That is the best part.  We could get a first round draft pick for Allen should we  commit to Cam long term.   Personally, I think we have a real controversy on our hands if Allen wins next week---do you go with a 31-year old QB who has sacrificed his body for several years and has been injured a lot lately, or do you go with the 23-year old QB who completes 70% of his passes and has shown the ability to win games?  As fans, we can argue because we are loyal.  As a GM, we all know what the smart move will be if that happens.

You're talking about Marty Hurley here right?  The guy who have Delhoome a fat contract after Tommy Jones?

Cam 2015 QB rating = 99.4

The racists of this forum are too obvious.  Any person who says something negative about Cam is attacked.

not sure this helps your argument. Cam's passer rating was 10 points higher than the average in 2015 when his receiving core consisted of career journeyman Ted Ginn, UDFA Philly Brown, and a 33 y/o Cotchery in his last year in the league.

quit using sports as a political vicar. You seem to be the deranged one as you are actually angry that Allen has done well and don't want success unless it can serve as a political allegory proving you right. You respond only with low-effort slurs and post only political bait these days

And the fact that it happens so frequently tells you where the mods and admins stand.

Rando at my bar was watching with me in the fourth quarter. Kyle Allen pulls a matrix move to escape the crashing end. We all pound the bar. Dude goes, without a trace of irony,

"I'm just saying, Cam Newton couldn't have done that"

Cam Newton made a fuging career out of doing that. Healthy Cam Newton ducks out of hits like that in his sleep and doesn't lose three fumbles because he is a tank with A-grade pocket awareness. He is an elite quarterback.

There is a positive correlation between people who say catastrophically stupid things like "cam newton couldn't have done that" and people who subjectively despise him for things like wearing a towel and dancing.

Cam Newton makes people deranged and it's going to be an unbelievable source of catharsis for me when he returns to take over the reins from Kyle Allen around thanksgivingish and leads this team to the playoffs

100% FACTS, Phil.  Tired of it man...  I'm pulling for Kyle like I'm pulling for all of our players to succeed, especially in Cam's absence so the team is in a good spot once he comes back healthy...  but there certainly are a ton of delusional idiots that have just been waiting for a chance to pounce on Cam.  I just still don't get it.  He is a former NFL MVP for a reason, and there isn't exactly a lot of those guys walking around...  the disrespect he gets is unreal.  And funny enough, the whole time I'm watching Kyle I keep thinking, "Cam never gets stripped like that," lol.

blah blah blah racism blah blah.

its really getting old listening to these people try to lump everyone into the racist bag anytime someone says something they don't agree with. get a grip

if it wasn't so prevalent and out in the open as it is now, you probably wouldn't hear so many people pointing it out.

just saying.

Observation bias. We tend to take note of things that confirm our beliefs and ignore or dismiss things that run counter to them. It's hard as fug to be really objective about anything.

There is another factor that could be in play--this new offense needs someone who can throw screens and get the ball out quickly to speedy, shifty players.  When we brought Cam in, we were running the vertical routes, where Cam could drop back, send the WRs deep, drag the TE, and run for daylight.  The QB in this offense is a different animal--we still only have 5-6 games of healthy Cam in this system, but is Allen's skill set a better fit?

I do not know, but there are many factors people are not considering because they want to make it about loyalty and race---non issues.  I see both sides, and the bottom line: who gives the team the best chance to win?

thank you sir, well said.

Who's deranged? Fans who're obsessed with a QB who's lost his last 9 games, or fans who are excited for a QB who has won his last 3?

how about fans who are so delusional and who have been looking for a reason to sweep cam out of here since he got here saying that allen is doing things (like being evasive and making a big play) that cam never did. obviously, that is a load of horse poo.

It’s tough because I understand the economics behind it also. We get a cheaper deal qb we can do a ton to surround him. But you’re gambling. You’re also gambling on Cam’s health.

that’s why I’m making no concrete opinion until after the season unfolds and we see how Kyle plays as well as if Cam comes back from injury.

Exactly.  Some people are going full throttle on the emotions, but this is a business. My concerns about Cam:

1. He was not given the coaching he needed early on.

2. He saved RR's job a few times.  RR knowingly played him hurt.  That makes injuries worse because they try to heal and cannot.  I am convinced that Cam's second surgery (scar tissue etc) was because RR started him knowing he was hurt. Re-injuring a healing joint injury causes scar tissue to form on top of scar tissue.  Then the surgery has scar tissue.  Etc.

3.  Combine 1 and 2, and he was forced to run and never really developed into that pure pocket passer.  The long ball (your point was solid) is part of his game--if you take that away, the accuracy issues become more noticeable because they are loading the box.  Basically, our coaches may have hurt his long-term success.

Of course, we all have to guess based on what we see.  I just do not see Cam getting better--I see the potential for a rather substantial decline,.

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
