Steve Smith Rips into Panthers WRs, "They may draft a WR in the 1st this year that will actually give good effort"

As far as our receivers— yes they need to be better.

but neither of them caused the defensive FUBAR we saw on Sunday,..

they also didn’t play offensive line which was a total disaster.

and they didn’t throw 3 interceptions.

they just failed to make clutch plays to help keep pace with a team that is obviously for real and came to play.

we went tits up—

To pretend receivers don't play a part in interceptions is naive and simplistic.

Who said that?

it’s also naive to pretend that the offensive line allowing 6 sacks and a lot of pressures in the first half DIDNT have 60% or more of the contribution there.

did you read the part of “our receivers to have to get better”?

no you didn’t.

You gotta understand what it takes for Steve freaking Smith of all people to agree with everyone comparing him to some new kid out of college. He passed the torch, of course he's gonna be upset that Moore isn't living up to that. He's extra invested in the Panthers anyway but with that co-sign he practically adopted DJ. There's time for him to grow but you're kidding yourself if you think Moore hasn't underperformed so far.

I maintain that the jury is out on Curtis until we get a deep game going.

He’s right...they can’t get open and have not been playing at a high level

hard to have a wide open offense when you have receivers that can’t  make plays down the field

Allen overthrew a wide open Samuel at least 4 times on Sunday.

DJ is a #1 but being a #1 means you forget those fumbles, correct and return to beasting after the catch. His confidence took a hit after those fumbles that literally lost the game. I get it but we need DJ to be DJ again.

It's really tough to be humble as a star athlete. Your whole career demands that you be supremely self confident but football is hard and when the best to ever do it in a Panther uniform plays your position, has a similar body type, style of play and you're not trying to stick to that guy like glue?

I said before last off season that he needed to humble himself and get as much of Smitty's time as he could. Yeah, Smitty is gonna put you through heck but he could cut that development time in half for DJ the young WR. He said it, that's his spirit animal. Somebody needs to piss this version off. No better than agent 89. Get whatever little time you can get DJ. Mow his lawn. Wash his car. Break in and cook breakfast for his family.

Humble thyself. It won't be easy, it really won't but you've got all the tools.

DJ is not a legitimate #1 NFL wideout

Yes they didn't play D

But while yes Kyle Allen threw a few bad throws.  But there was 1 int that was partially on the WR not fighting and giving up on his route.

Yes they weren't the OL and the OL got beat like a drum.  But they did cause at least 1 coverage sack failing to get open.

When it is a clusterfuggery from top to bottom, no one, I mean no one is going to be making plays and it starts with the freaking O-line and D-Line.  Good O-line allows runs and passes to develop....which translates to now it is up to the QB, WR and RB to make plays.  D-line getting pressure or disruptive translates to less time the backfield has to chase/cover and etc...

The flow of the game dictates a lot of what happens. The offense is somewhat limited right now, as it doesn’t have the amperage to rally from a deficit. That’s a quarterback issue. That’s a protection issue. I think the receivers are decent, but I think you need somebody out there who can take over a game at some point. McCaffrey is very much that from a multi-dimensional perspective, but he’s not a vertical threat.

Let’s also keep in mind: when you get into a 21-3 hole against an elite defense on the road on a windy day, you’re asking any QB to do a lot. Cam might’ve pulled it off. but I doubt it. It was a team loss. And the receivers are part of that mix.

The WRs have made some plays but they haven’t shredded anyone the way they’ve been hyped to. I’m not seeing a lot of broken and evaded tackles. I also don’t know that I agree Samuel is always wide open deep. A guy with his speed shouldn’t be getting overthrown. He seems ok with just trying to draw a flag at the end of those routes and not fighting for the ball.

Dude— statistics don’t lie.

hes not even in the top 100 for touchdowns.

only 31st in yardage...

And he can’t catch when the ball isn’t perfect.

i posted an article with the statistics comparing him to DeAndre Hopkins— it was bad when not comparing their almost even yardage.

he doesn’t close in the red zone and doesn’t close games.

im not saying that as a Falcon hater. It’s just facts.

ill post all three spread sheets with raw data for you again— it’s just facts— like gravity.

I gave you this one again— you can get take the time to look at the rest— just type in receiving touchdowns all time and receiving yards,..

when I watch games with him— catches and runs unbelievable in the open field.

when the ball isn’t perfect, but catchable— nope—
