Sorenson: Tepper has a decision

Why do people keep believing in the myth that Rivera is a good coach?

Because, as you can see from a lot of huddlers, we aren’t the Browns or Dolphins. That’s right. We aren’t the absolute worst and so we’re doing pretty well. That is the culture JR instilled in this fanbase and could not define mediocrity to a T any better.

Sorensen didn’t mention that it was Ron who allowed Cam to keep playing even though everyone could tell he was seriously injured. And it’s not the only time he has done it.

You won’t find one player who will say a negative thing about Ron but it just looks like his message is falling on deaf ears.

The local media is always trying to defend Ron. They never hold him accountable for anything.

Mediocrity is the way of the nfl.

Since the panthers came into the league in 1995 only 5 teams have a win % at or above 56.25%, which is  9-7.  And all

All of them have had two hof caliber qbs except the Steelers who are the model of stability.

what’s that tell you?

Since coming into the league the Panthers are on the verge of being in the bottom 30% of the league in wins vs. losses. What’s that tell you?

imo rivera is too stubborn to change to keep around. he promoted from within too many times, he made good position coaches coordinators when they didn’t have the necessary savvy for it. he also has done a horrible job when it comes to competing within your own division, which plays such a big part in placing at the end of the year for a playoff seed. two fifty burgers in the past two years is not a good indicator of his game management skills. they lost 7 games in a row last year and he should have been fired then. as far as i’m concerned tepper threw away the 2019 season when he let rivera and hurney stick around after that 2018 abomination. let’s hope he doesn’t throw away 2020 as well.

Parity due to draft, salary cap and free agency rules.  It tells me the system works.  Dynasties are quite rare.

And if memory serves, the last college coach to make a successful transition to the NFL without some time as an NFL assistant or coach was Jimmy Johnson.  And that was nearly 30 years ago in the pre salary cap days.  Maybe Tom Coughlin, but even he had to do a stint at Jacksonville before he got to a SB with the Giants.

There's record isn't great this year, but I'd keep an eye on Kingsbury. He's certainly got the offense playing better.

Is their a source for this?  I couldn't find a straight up comparison of only our first year to present.  Just a selection of snap shots based on the article.

Panthers are just barely under .500 in franchise history.

From 2010-2018 Carolina is number 14 in the NFL wins

10th in Playoff wins from 1996+. 11th in Playoff games 1996+.

Are all those stats showing to be a long term mediocre team?  Yes.

Does it need to change? Yes.

Is it a bottom 30% team?  Doesn't look like it.
