So why is his jersey marked down 50% at the stadium

He's probably been one of the top jersey sellers for years and with all of the uncertainty around his future I'm sure sales have declined dramatically while they're sitting on a ton of inventory. Retail economics 101.

*that's assuming this is even true in the first place.

Which is exactly what a guy who's looking to get the best trade offer he can would say.

Nobody who's hoping to swing a trade is ever going to come out and say "we'll just release him if we can't get what we want". That kills your chances of getting anything.

You always have to act as if you're perfectly content with keeping him moving forward.

I don't know whether Newton will be here next year or not. I do know there are significant factors working against it.

Those things could change, but if they don't then it's not likely..

That seems coded in the very least.

I'm sure we would all prefer a healthy Cam being the starting QB for us next year. The real question becomes will he actually be healthy?

It's important because it elucidates that Tepper has not "moved on" from Cam as so many with "insider" connections are asserting.  In fact, it's the opposite --- the two are close and Tepper wants Cam to be part of the solution going forward.

If he gets healthy he will play for the Carolina Football Panthers.

If he doesn't he'll go run his cigar bar in Atlanta.

The situation has been clear from the beginning

Panthers want a healthy Cam starting for at least one more year.  Panthers know Cam’s health is an issue.  Thus the Panthers will listen to a good trade offer knowing they aren’t likely to make it past a year.

Panthers aren’t cutting Cam and they aren’t trading him for just any offer. Cam will be on this team or we are gonna get a package for him that we deem acceptable.

Quoted from that link...

That’s an obvious position to take at this point; the best leverage when it comes to trade talks is the ability to say to a potential partner, “We’ll just keep him.” The moment it becomes a foregone conclusion that the player will be gone, the price bottoms out.

In March, when everyone knew that the Steelers and Antonio Brown were careening toward a divorce, the Steelers still were trying to sell the idea that the storm could blow over and Brown could stay.

...

Of course, it’s also important to consider what Newton wants. If he wants a fresh start, he’s more likely to get one.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
