Who did you want?

Looking back at the top draft picks we’ve had in the last 15 years or so, who did you want with that selection?

I remember the guy I wanted with each top pick since 2005. Sometimes it was better than Hurney. Sometimes it was what Hurney did, and sometimes it was worse.

2005: Aaron Rodgers
2006: LenDale White
2007: Brandon Meriweather
2008: Jonathan Stewart
2009: Mohamed Massaquoi
2010: Jimmy Clausen
2011: Cam Newton
2012: Luke Kuechly
2013: Tyler Eifert
2014: Kelvin Benjamin
2015: Philip Dorsett (really wanted Humphries but he went one spot before)
2016: Myles Jack
2017: Christian McCaffrey
2018: D.J. Moore
2019: Brian Burns

As you can see, we’ve often picked the guy I wanted. Sometimes, that was ingenious. Other times, it was stupid.

Until late February of 2011, I wanted Nick Fairley No. 1. I thought that dude was going to be an absolute game-changer at DT.

I also really wanted to get Mardy Gilyard in 2010. Thought he'd be a star.

05. Derrick Johnson

06. DeAngelo Williams 1st, if he was gone Lendale White

07.cant 100% remember. I did like Sidney Rice the WR that year but not sure I saw him as 1st round pick. Was totally not expecting Beason. Wasn’t even on my radar since we had Morgan

08. Brandon Albert or J-Stew

09.cant remember Since we didn’t have a first, did hate the Brown pick

10. Guilty as hell for wanting Clausen

11. Cam all day. Never wanted a player more

12. 1A.Janoris Jenkins, 1.BAlshon Jeffrey and 2.Quinten Coples. Luke was not on radar because of Beason.

13. Huddle had me drinking the Star Kool aid

14. Dreamed Odell would fall, Marquise Lee was my favorite available player at 28

15. Really don’t remember. May have been so poisoned by the 14 season I took that year off

16. Cant say for certain but maybe Derrick Henry. Had to review the list and he’s the only name I remember liking.

17. Fournette, Corey Davis and Lattimore were my top 3.

18. 1A.Jaire Alexander 2A. Calvin Ridley

19. Don’t recall rooting for any 1 player last year.  Don’t think I spent much time considering the options.

2011: Green or Peterson (Colin in the 2nd)
2012: Brockers.
2013: Hopkins, but I knew we'd take Star when he "fell" to us.
2014: Literally Any WR. Kelvin was my favorite when we were on the clock tho.
2015: Byron Jones.
2016: Emmanuel Ogbah. I also just learned Butler went before Chris Jones. Hm.
2017: Fournette.
2018: Moore or Ridley
2019: Burns.

Nice thread Carl

Farther back...I do remember wanting to give up the farm for Andre Wadsworth, boy that didn't work out.  Passing on Randy messed with my head that day.

2006: DeAngelo Williams
2007: Greg Olsen
2008: No Preference
2009: James Laurinitis
2010: No preference but I'd have preferred Golden Tate to Jimmy Clausen
2011: No preference but wanted a non-quarterback
2012: Fletcher Cox
2013: Star Lotulelei (wanted Tavon Austin too but knew he wasn't going to fall)
2014: Ja'Wuan James
2015: Kevin White or Andrus Peat
2016: No preference
2017: Christian McCaffrey
2018: Frank Ragnow or Will Hernandez

2012: Quinton Couples or Fletcher Cox. Did not want Luke.

2013: Star and worried with each pick.

2014: Clueless. No one jumped out.

2015: No one jumped out to me. The Shaq pick shocked me.

2016: Hunter Henry

2017: Wanted to trade down with CMC as bait.

2018: Leaning toward DJ but unsure.

2019: Didn't like the choices.

2020: Andrew Thomas or Derrick Brown whichever falls.

2012 wanted Fletcher Cox really bad.

2013 was hoping Star would fall.

Remember 2014 pretty well. Wanted a lot of the receivers like Davante and Cooks, Also Deone Buchannon or Bitonio.

2015 was Cam Erving or Preston Smith.

2016 I think was Kevin Dodd lol or Chris Jones. Believe I was okay with either Henry but not dead set.

2017 was Solomon or Fournette.

DJ and Burns were randomly at the top of my lists recently but did like Will Hernandez.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
