If Cam is healthy .. we want to make damn sure he will be protected .. so we will put our faith in a ... rookie Tackle ..

So how many A grade top 10 pick rookie tackles dont come in and start? Do they normally ride the bench?

I like moving him to guard

Greg Little has (1) never played OG in college or in the pros and (2) doesn’t have the mental want-to to play an even MORE physical position than he’s already playing.

Little was soft in college and is still soft in the pros. He’s always had amazing talent and he got by on that in college but his attitude has and will continue to hold him back in the pros. He’s no longer automatically more talented than the guy he’s looking up across anyone. In fact, he’s more than likely LESS talented than that guy.  That’s when desire and work-ethic come in, somethings of which Little has always been lacking.

Little is still very much an unknown in the NFL .. he is 22 - he's a kid still .. it's just as likely he becomes an All-Pro as it is he becomes Amini Silotolu at this juncture.

It may not be smart to bet on Little being a solid lineman ... but it is not smart to bet on him not becoming a solid lineman, either.

I mean, we don't have an LT, LG, C, TE, WR2, NT, Base DE, LB minus Shaq along with a coaching staff full of guys completely green when it comes to the NFL level.  There's some pretty substantial holes and overall question marks.  I can see us surprising some depending on what shakes out but I have no idea what type of team we're about to roll out.  We're down to the studs minus Moore, CMC and Shaq.

Not to mention the secondary, which is in shambles as well.

Truth.  Our CB2, NB, and Reid are coming back but all are spotty and inconsistent .  Luke & Jackson still have a lot of potential though.

Stinky indeed.

Hence why the bottom line for me is that, given the uncertainty surrounding him, I don't thank you can plan to base any decisions in this draft on Cam Newton.

If his status is resolved by then maybe, but we don't know that.

My guess for the moment is that the draft will just have to be based around general team building.

I see a scenario like the following shaping up:

1-CIN selects Burrow (QB)

2-WAS selects Young (DE)

3-Trade-MIA selects Tua (QB)

4-Trade-LAC selects Herbert (QB)

5-DET selects Okudah (CB)

6-NYG selects Isaiah Simmons (LB)

This leaves it to us having pickings for any OL but holy guacamole, Derrick Brown would be incredible. The guy has been virtually unblockable the past two seasons. I just see a bit more overall value added to the team and the guy is a leader, not to mentions brings an incredible amount of energy to the field which we are in dire need for. Thomas is the only sure fire LT IMO and we have so many needs. It's early to project but I think it's shaping up to be Brown.

We need to find a top talent that is a true team lead. Brown fits that. Only a few other non-QBs do in this class IMO. There's some great team captains in the mid-ranks but if we're talking non-QB leaders with all-pro talent, you've got Young, Simmons & Brown. They carried their locker rooms.

I would love to see us get the top OT available but I seriously doubt Hurney is going to do anything that might acknowledge he made a mistake with Little.

Even with that said though, I'm never on board with reaching for need. You have to take the best player available.

If the best player is clearly Brown, you take him.

Agreed and agreed.

Except, I don't want another LB in the top 10.  For me it's either DT, DE (don't see one there), or OT, with my preference being OT if he checks out.

That would be a home run so we won't be doing that.

Pick a MLB in the 1st. Go ahead and throw the 2nd ans 3rd round picks out and pencil in a warm body that won't contribute and follow it up with an injurey prone project in the 4th, a guy that contributes in the 5th as a backup or 3rd/4th year starter and the 6th round and 7th round guys will be cut or sent to the practice squad. Clasic Hurney draft.

I would rather have you as the GM.

He has been very hit and miss with third round picks historically. Not terrible. Especially at drafting DE’s in the 3rd.

he should never be allowed to make the 2nd round pick tho

    • It's been many a year since we were in December talking about how games mattered for something other than draft order. This crazy, mixed up, unpredictable, maddening, uplifting and teeth gnashing season has certainly not been boring.
    • If you look at Brown and Horn's contracts, expect to pay above what he is likely actually worth. This is the Panthers suckage tax. Ultimately, much like Derrick Brown, he has steadily improved over time and that's what you want out of your young first round draft picks. He was one of the biggest and most important question marks coming into the season and he has answered it conclusively. He is "the guy" at LT. Great news, one less position of extreme importance to have to attempt to remedy.
    • This is maddening because, well, it's so up and down. When the kid's on, he can be great. When he's mediocre, we can still win based on a strong running game and good defense. When he's bad, and over his history he's this more than not, then it's a sad show that no one could win with. How can anyone know what is going to happen right now? Really. It's like picking one flake in a snow globe and shaking it once a week... there is no telling where it will end up. Things I did see on Sunday from Bryce: his teammates love him; he can make the big throws with good protection and good effort from his receivers. He isn't afraid to run. He can rise up against the best in competition (but he can also sink to the level of bad competition).  All I can say is if Canales goes with an aggressive game plan for Bryce that leans on a hot-hand running game, the team can beat anyone. If there's any wishy-washy play calling, then Bryce melts and couldn't beat anyone.  Maybe the person Bryce needs to win over more than anyone is Canales.
