Thomas Davis: “If I’m Cam Newton, I’m doing what’s best for me and my career” “The time is best for him to find another team”

I don't see what the ownership has done wrong

You can't commit to a franchise QB before ya know he's even even healthy!!

True but you could easily say something like “Cam is a great talent and if healthy, we want him leading our team.” Rather than “talk to me when he’s healthy. I’m not a doctor and he’s not a doctor.” I don’t think the organization has done anything wrong and I don’t blame the organization if they want to rebuild, but the wording by Tepper/Hurney recently says a lot. They are not saying anything publicly that shows we are planning on having him lead our franchise next year.

TD is probably right.

In a nutshell, we have a QB who should be in the middle of his career, but due to injuries his career is in a state of flux.  We also have a team that is also in a state of flux right now, eyeing the future with new ownership, a new coaching staff, a lot of new front office personnel, and a vastly different method of operations.

I'd like to see Cam back and see what he's got in 2020, but those two things are not all that compatible.  Given the Panthers current state, anybody who is past about their 27th birthday has to feel like their position on this team is tenuous.  Nice words and PR-inspired tones are not going to change that dynamic.

Honestly, I have no idea what to expect heading into next season other than I don't expect us to be playing next February.....or January for that matter.  Maybe my expectations will go up after the draft, but right now, I see a team with a lot of holes and unknowns.  Given one of those areas is what gets QBs hammered back there, I'm not so sure it is in Cam's best interest to be setting up in our offensive backfield.

Thomas Davis is not a very bright individual

Not sure of everything TD said but “If I’m Cam Newton, I’m doing what’s best for me and my career”  sounds pretty damn straight forward.  Lots of folks tend to do this. Maybe not to the dismay of message board posters but the door none the less.

At this point I feel bad wanting Cam back. We just are not set up or ready to win and there isn't anyone running things at any level that has winning experience in the NFL. The last two years were wasted and the next two are not looking any better. It's a crap position for him and us fans. Go and be free my friend, you deserve better.

Exactly, the people who think we can contend with Cam have hope clouding their judgement. We aren’t going to win with him. We’ll limp along as a mediocre team using way too much cap space on him. And that all assumes he’s healthy and doesn’t get hurt. It’s funny that most of them tend to be Hurney fans and you are right that he buried any hope of having a competitive team around him the next couple years.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
