No but when it happens he’s already set up his excuse.

I never agree with Harbs, but this "announcement" screams contingency plan when the fruits of this rebuild rot and amount to nothing.

But like @TheRed said, all we can do is watch and see.

Exactly.

As the Panthers owner Tepper wants to win as badly as any fan on this forum.

Dave gave Rivera his opportunity to shine and it didn't pan out.

Now the Panthers are hitting the reset button.

Not sure if Tepper can pull it off, but it looks like he is giving it his best shot.

All he is saying is please be patient it may take some time.

If the team has a quick turn around I'm sure he'll be as thrilled as the rest of us.

Just try and be somewhat realistic about this process.

I don't question that Tepper wants to win.

I do question whether he's football smart enough to know how.

What's especially unfortunate about that is that if he doesn't, we've basically replaced Jerry Richardson with a younger, richer, more interesting / less creepy version of...Jerry Richardson, because that was his story too.

People need to quit crying. He wants nothing more than for us to win a championship and in order to do that we had to tear it down to build it back up. Almost everyone was crying for a total change 3/4 of the way through last season and now that it’s here many just want to complain. I guess we should have stuck with the same vets for the next 4 years and stay between 6-10 and 9-7 to make you happy because it makes you feel warm and fuzzy that they have played with us for a while. Remember after Jimmy the Pickle year we got Cam, and it was a few years until we were competing again (but watching the build and growth was fun). That same thing will happen but at least now it will be exciting to watch our team grow into hopefully a championship caliber program. Give the team a chance it definitely won’t happen this season but we can build something special in a couple seasons, and hopefully see great progress as we are building it back up.

100% this

There were people on here screaming for us to trade for Josh Gordon last year and calling anyone who disagreed with that a moron... then they started screaming for us to trade for Antonio Brown and calling anyone who disagreed a moron...

I already know the huddlers who I respect and take seriously. All these other reactionary idiots are just that. Reactionary idiots

Look at what Jerry Richardson had the players practicing in while it rained. Again as everyone has said for the hundredth time. There was no realistic way to fire Marty Hurney in December. GMs don't jump jobs until May, after the draft... Marty is on his last year ending in May; There are no realistic candidates available today. How do you know Marty Hurney won't retire after getting one last NFL GM contract?

Jerry Richardson took years to fire a coach, overpaid veterans (we aren't doing that), and refused to invest money in the team without the city. I am 100% missing where people think Tepper has his hands in this team; if he truly does, it says a lot about what he thinks of Marty Hurney. I don't think there is a realistic way for Tepper to sit back and watch at this point, it is unrealistic to get rid of Marty until May, anybody who thinks otherwise is delusional. The man has drafted 4 players who will see the NFLHOF someday, if he gets kept on in a scouting role, oh well, not many other GMs drafted Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly, Julius Peppers, Steve Smith.

Once Rhule is comfortable in his seat, the GM situation is settled with a potential assistant or new GM in place, I believe David Tepper will go back to what you more saw of him in 2018 and most of 2019, observing. You can dislike the Rhule hire all you want, Marty Hurney hired 2 coaches... each had the Panthers in the Super Bowl once. I just don't understand, was Tepper supposed to fire Rivera and tell MH to go fix the organization? If you fire MH, you now have David Tepper scouting for the NFL draft or a crappy GM candidate.  I guess Kraft destroyed the organization every time he forced Bill Belichicks hand, if you think owners just all sit back and relax (maybe one teams like the Jaguars, Titans, or Dolphins) you're delusional.

Meanwhile: here’s Pittsburgh teasing the return of their soon-to-be 38 year old QB, as Rapsheet serves as the official hype-man.

It is mindblowing that we are literally doing the opposite of what the Steelers are doing. A franchise we once tried to emulate.

My how things have changed.

    • Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.
    • It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
    • I can't see a world where the money goes down, but maybe your lottery odds are now your contract numbers you can offer.  Thunder? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 20 million.  Hornets? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 80 million.  Some form of a system where the money is still there, but so is the freedom of choice (on top of bad teams getting *some* competitive advantage to signing them).
