O-Line over Everything

We retain Cam Newton and don't draft a Tackle with our first round pick we've failed yet again.

Literally no other position on the field minus an insane drop by chase young or any of the top 3 picks makes sense. Cam Newton is the highest paid player on the team, he's coming off injury were giving him his chance. It's time to give him an offensive line with some depth, some raw talent and a look for a center mid round.

Our defense is in rebuild mode. We have enough picks to draft defensive talent. But that side of the ball is in need of a full on re-build. Luke leaving, has left a hole in the middle and it's going to take time to rebuild it right. Take what you can get until next draft, and build the offensive side of the ball.

You get a good oline it not only saves cam, hopefully rejuvenating his career, while also improving CMC's outlook because Lord knows he needs all the protection he can get. You give him time, just watch what he can do. It's the answer to all of our problems. It's always been the answer.

Question is CAN RHULE DRAFT A LEFT TACKLE PLEASE?

You can’t think this way. What if we sign or trade for a vet LT and draft a guard in the 2nd round? That’s a success to me. Then we have Dailey as backup G, and little as backup LT and we have someone who can start on defense with our 1st round pick. As bad as our O line was, we can make moves like this to help both sides out if we select DT 1st. Many forget we had absolutely terrible run defense last year. Free agency isn’t here yet so wait until that happens to say we have to pick a specific position. At 7 we need to go with BPA and about 7 prospects will fill a huge need for us in the 1st round.

Please name for me the vet LT who will be available in FA that you would be comfortable entrusting Cam’s blind side to. Like qb it’s one of those positions where the good ones almost never hit FA.

This thinking that the OL isn’t that bad and doesn’t have to be an urgent priority RIGHT NOW is what has led us to a franchise qb in his prime that causes the owner, HC and GM to turn the phrase “if healthy” into a verbal tic.

For about the eleventy billionth time, if the defense sucks next year, it affects only next year. If the OL sucks, there is an extremely strong possibility it leads to Cam not being our qb beyond that. Think about that real hard and tell me whether BPA still outweighs that.

Lastly with regards to filling huge needs, if you don’t think LT is one of the biggest on the team...

We really need to address the o line. Via free agency and/or draft. It won’t matter who we have under center if we don’t improve the line. Maybe I’m old fashion but I believe games are still won in the trenches. With all that being said, if it comes to our pick and Chase is still out there. You have to get him. As far as the draft goes drafting o line men. I don’t want use to draft just to draft if the talent isn’t there. We still have FA but one thing I just can’t fathom is how haven’t we had a decent replacement at LT since Gross retires?

I strongly suspect a lazy line of thinking in our brain trust at the time that told itself Cam's athleticism and size meant we could build Ron an uber defense around Luke and not worry too much about investing heavily in the o line, cause his skills would compensate. Never mind that we installed an offense for his entire career until it was too late that required him to hold the ball for long, slow developing routes.

This is a pretty persuasive argument, especially considering how many top end tackles there will be available at pick #7.

I still think, though, that our offensive line problems began at the Center position when Kalil left, and improved little to none when Paradis came on board. Maybe Paradis was still hurt and he'll be in better shape this season... or maybe he was one of those vets we should have got the CarFax on before buying.

If we go OT in the first and C in the second, I'll be happy and won't complain a bit.

Edit to add: Thomas in the first, Cushenberry in the second (he's been the LSU center for three years and looks solid in both ability and familiarity with our new OC's system).

Andrew Whitworth, Anthony Castonzo, Jason Peters. It would give us a stable presence at LT who is proven while giving us extra time to develop Little and make sure he can handle the starting role, while also being great depth....

The play at C and LT last year leaves little enthusiasm for this year without bringing in new people. Scheme, better C play and new coaches can help but watching our C 1 on 1 getting thrown around and our LTs ill equipped to handle NFL speedrushers isn't something i expect much of a change in if/when we trot these guys put there this year.

If the new coaches and brain trust throw away multiple picks in bad trades again and don't invest in fixing the Oline this offseason then i will know about our future as much as I care to know. At this point, I'm sadly expecting it.

Whitworth is coming off leg surgery in January and will be 38 next season. Are you saying you’d like to try the Roulette wheel of aging FA OL coming off leg surgery again after watching Paradis attempt to do whatever it is that he does this past season?

Pass.

Peters will be 38 also and has played 16 games only once in the past 3 years. The Eagles however seem firmly committed to retaining him. Do you really wanna get into a bidding war for a 38 year old LT who’s no sure thing to be healthy, even a future HOF?

stopgap at best and an expensive one, but I will grant that if your concern is next season and next season only, he might be the best available option. The question is how many FA dollars will it take to pry him out of Philly?

Might wanna check the news Costanza just announced his intention to return to the Colts. Players looking to move or get max dollar don’t publicly announce their intention to stay with the team.

    • I think the same thing, they don’t have any better options especially since Christiansen is out for the year
    • It wasn’t completely his fault, but outside of two throws and one or two scrambles he didn’t do much to help. His accuracy was all over the place, numerous passes that were placed poorly and didn’t give the receiver a good chance to catch the ball or do anything with it after. He also continues to display terrible pocket awareness. Even the sacks could have been avoided, they weren’t immediate like the pressure we got on Shough at times. Bryce just often has no feel for pressure and stands there waiting to get sacked after numerous seconds have passed.
    • I really fuging hate this era in so many ways.  I look at those Adin Ross and Neon kids, and I just wonder why tf are they famous?  Why would anyone be desperate enough to gain THAT audience that they’d risk money, career, disciplinary action to go up there and associate with those fuging dweebs?  And back in my day, racist peers got their ass beat.  And not endorsing or approving bully culture, but checks and balances and all…  had those two been bullied, or at the very least humbled, they wouldn’t be famous and glorified for being the fuging idiots they are now.  It seriously pisses me off… they both have done and said multiple, openly racist stuff and major media keeps pushing them, talking about them, and propping them up… and then dummies like Puka who don’t need the platform or exposure lend their celebrity to them.  fuging idiot… and even the other streamers, I don’t get - Speed, Kai…  I don’t understand making nobodies famous at all, but there is at least entertainment value to some degree there, and I could see how young, impressionable kids would find them something to aspire to (sadly), or view as “cool.”  But Ross and Neon?  They’re just shitty, shitty nerds with big ass mouths. I’ve went back recently and watched some classics (in two very different eras and categories 😂)  like Robocop and Idiocracy.  And what I find fascinating is how both movies illustrate how stupid society became by showing what the citizenry is entertained by.  In both, society became anti-intellectual and the citizenry were entertained by lowest denominator, primal-type absurdity - poo like, “Ouch! My Balls!”  Or on Robocop, a guy is a watching a show where they are smashing cakes on ladies’ breasts and then a guy says a line as the camera zooms in like, “I’d buy that for a dollar!” and the audience thinks it’s hilarious.  That’s where I feel like we are now.  Like who watches that clip with Puka and thinks any of that poo is funny or cool?  If I was Puka, I’d honestly be wondering why tf I’m hanging out with these beta ass, racist, cretin ass weirdos.
