Jets- Eyeing Panthers G Greg Van Roten

Revamping the offensive line is Jets GM Joe Douglas‘ top priority this offseason and Van Roten could be an option for New York in the second tier of free-agent offensive linemen. It’s worth noting that Van Roten would reportedly like to remain in Carolina.

It’s not clear if the team intends to re-sign him yet, though if he left it would mean they would need to replace both starting guards after trading away Trai Turner.

I like GVR but not for anywhere near 10 million a season. If we are spending money like that put it towards Bradberry

For whatever you think of Van Roten, it's true that even average players are getting above average contracts these days.

That's why it's extremely important to draft well, and not just in the first round.

8-10 million for a below average OG is outlandish. Watch Marty re-sign him for that amount

He's going to get paid, I'm just not sure that what we could and should offer will be near what he can get from some other teams. Hate to see him go, but it's back to that "play ceiling was below the pay ceiling" thing.

was is Hurney or Gettleman that signed Van Roten to a 2-year $1.6 million dollar deal?  one of our better moves these past few years.

You think GVR is the solution to our line problems? He’s a below average Guard who is projected to make 8-10 million a year. Do you think it’s a good idea to give him that type of contract?
