That is crazy thinking. The only folks who call the media the enemy of the people are deranged despots who want no record of what they are doing or saying and no one calling them out. We haven't had fake news until we had a fake president who was a reality TV star. The media isn't the problem it is people who blindly follow anyone who will tell them what they want to hear. The majority of people don't support trump and primetime viewers on Fox in April averaged between 3 and 4 million viewers which was number 1 but hardly an overwhelming majority of viewers. Frankly I rarely watch any of them these days.

The reach of a Fox News (or the other news networks) goes far beyond the documented number of viewers in a given night.  Way, way beyond.  Think of it like a virus.  There are millions directly infected and then they infect those around them.

I saw something similar. Basically, Fox polled republicans and found people could be grouped in 3 distinct ways. They then created 3 prime time shows that appealed to each of those groups. Their 9pm show appeals to the largest of the 3 groups.

I see the same thing on msnbc now.

CNN has a similar format.  Chris Cuomo for instance had a real news show in the morning's, and you could tell by his guests.  But now they put him in primetime, it's not a real news show anymore and its targeting a different type of viewer.  There are guests on his current show that would not have been on his news show.  Then he throws it to Don Lemon which is basically like watching Tucker Carlson throw it to Hannity.

Florida fired the statistician who was doing the Corona count because she refused to under report the numbers. Apparently her replacement has fewer qualms.  Florida is just manipulating the numbers while they head straight to a disaster. With the state so full of old retired people, Florida should be taking huge precautions instead of ignoring guidelines already in place.

It was telling when the BLM protesters were breaking windows at CNN in ATL. They think they can spread all this fear, unrest, despair and division 24/7 for YEARS and not eventually make everyone mad at them.

The polls are telling, people are losing trust in the media and it started before Dipshit.

Black lives protesters have been by and large peaceful. Let's not confuse protesters with rioters who are comprised of activists from both extremes with an agenda to create division and foment anger.  I read a meme earlier today suggesting no one has ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American populace. Seems media just panders to the lowest common denominator.

I think that narrative is somewhat true but it just takes a spark for a protest to turn nasty. Not every person committing some property violation was someone that went out with the intention of doing anything bad. Some just get caught up in the moment. That's why I get a little wary of all these, "well all these rioters are from other places." Historically that has been used for pretty specific reasons and mostly not good. The CNN situation was largely people letting their outrage get the best of them. Some of these "riots" have been that as well. The bulk are just fuging knuckleheads looking to take advantage of the situation.

Anyway, let's not get off into the weeds too much on that. The point being that the general American public is progressively losing faith in the journalistic institutions which is a frightening prospect. When they lose the public opinion, it makes totalitarian measures seem much more reasonable. Dipshit does actually understand this. He sees that the media isn't doing their job and he is driving that wedge between the free press and the public. It also allows him to make these dramatic abuses of the free press more normalized. And that is scary. The Obama administration also attacked the press(much more subtly) during the Snowden/WikiLeaks era.

In my opinion, that is one of the biggest threats we are facing. As the public loses faith in it's institutions(and rightly so), it makes the slope towards totalitarianism very steep and well lubricated.

The vote is the one big equalizer in America, yet people do not take it seriously and just leave all their thinking for someone else.  All the "someone elses" are happy to manipulate and promise them the world and America will just go along with whatever bell rings the clearest for them

The effort to undermine the media is deliberate and having a negative effect for sure but I don't think that people are losing faith in journalism as much as they are accepting low brow political rants as reporting and shoddy factless  conspiracy theories as breaking news.  Most people aren't discriminating enough to know the truth when they hear it  There are good sources of information and news but you have to be discerning and listen with a critical ear. There is very little true journalism going on in television and social media is a minefield of misinformation. The good news is that there are still some good people out there with integrity. The bad news is that the majority have an agenda or less than sterling motives.

The “outside agitators” phrase from the media has been used during different unrest/uprising events throughout US history to downplay the anger of oppressed people/supporters. I don’t think “the bulk” were people trying to take advantage of the situation. There definitely were some. But that phrase is used to divert attention. People were pissed the fug off and exhausted all options. In Minneapolis specifically,  they blew up a fuging police precinct, burned down half a city and looted corporate buildings, targeting very specific things. I know this is a separate discussion but I agree with some of your takes. Not all but some.

cnn is bullshit and that was one of the most badass things I’ve seen in my life.

I think the media has done a good enough job of undermining themselves so when a true charlatan is in office(like now) they can exploit those weaknesses.

You definitely hit the nail on the head about people not being savvy enough to consume news and have a skeptical view. It's too easy to be lazy and follow along with a narrative that you are predisposed to believe in. We constantly lean towards confirmation bias in consumption of news and media. That is where one of our fatal flaws as Americans is laid bare. We are intellectually lazy and feed these trolls(TV Media, social media, etc) instead of ignoring them. That is how we bear the ultimate responsibility for the evolution of the modern news media(and really sport media, as well). We love these echo chambers for some reason.

I even hear people say things like, "Well, I watch Fox and MSNBC and that way I have a counterpoint." The problem with that is constantly consuming blatant, naked propaganda is that even little bits of that will slip through and their sensationalism will still have subtle impacts. If nothing else, it is stressful to watch/listen to that trash. People need to disengage more and stop consuming from these bad actors. They hurt society and there is no benefit to feeding those machines.

    • Well bois, we gave the Devils their due! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... The jersey boys have been trying to jack our steeze for a few years now. They've followed our blueprints and studied our tape. Every offseason, they pounce on our sloppy seconds in a Newark minute. Quick with the puck, ferocious on the forecheck and stifling team defense. Down to the colors, this is this closest we'll come to having to play ourselves in Ole Stanley's Hockey Hoedown. As the postseason began, Rod stood flexing in the gym mirror and saw this guy staring back from the void... (Shutters) When beating us at our game didn't work, Timo and the Tri-State Trash tried to tango instead. Outside of a bitchass cheapshot on Freddie, that poo didn't work either. Their goon squad was getting wrecked by our bantam weights. As much as we all wanted to see Svechy or Staal Bunyan literally break someone in half after the Great Dane went down, they didnt need to. Our munchkins were monsters! Jarvis obliterating giants at the blue line, Logan laying the Stank on dudes twice his size and Blakers blasting Timo into next season. It was beautiful to see! (Side note: Does JBlo wear lead weights under his pads? 170lbs shouldn't be able to hit that hard!) We closed it out in 5, for the gentleman's sweep. Only team in the league to win a series in each of the past 7(?) seasons! And, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year... Onto the awards: Key To The Series : 6 for 19 - .316% IT FINALLY WORKED!!! MVP : 16/180 g/s - .911 save% - 2.53 gaa Seriously, without this dude, we would've won in 3! (Trust me bro) 3rd Star : 6/94 g/s - .936 save % - 1.59 gaa The Great Dane   2nd Star : 3 g - 5 a - +1 - 20:38 toi/g - 18 hits - 3 bs - 58.1% fo 3 PP goals and the 2OT series winning goal! WOOAAAHHH NELLY!!!!   And, your 1st Star of the series : 5 g - 1 a - +3 - 16:48 toi/g - 16 hits - 1 bs - 1 tk - 50% fo Zero, I repeat, zero penalty minutes for the series! MISSSTAAAHHH SVEEECHNIKOOOV!!!!!! Onto The Next: Now, we wait for the Habs to make it a nasty 7 game slog, while we recuperate. And, hopefully, get Nikishin, and some of the other black aces some real peactice time. We are gonna need those guys at some point. Because, if you think the Devils were dirty, hoooo boy, wait till you see what's next...
