Common sense can triumph. Simple truthful information is what people need and understand most. Shutdowns need to be controlled by counties/cities rather than a blanket code for an entire state. Too bad we didn't do this from the beginning.

Nope. That’s how it was in Utah. They did it different like that. Some counties just didn’t give a fug. As of today, the mayor came in and said fug it, masks are mandatory everywhere except your personal house. Thank god.

Common sense absolutely cannot triumph for the simple fact for some people it does not exist.

I don't agree with this. IMO, this is not the right approach given what we now know about this virus. Masks and social distancing is the right way to go.

What I haven't understood through all of this is why we haven't done a better job of protecting the high risk.  Even with the total shutdown you still had a tremendous amount of high risk people working in "essential" business.

Seems like if you did a better job of removing those from the equation you could let everyone else go back to work/play normally and your net deaths would possible go down, especially with mask and social distancing.

lock down specifically targets the at risk population

so that's not just your obviously immuno compromised, that's > 65, obese, a smoker, or diabetic.

who does that population sound like?

I could Google it. But has anyone ever done the stats to see how much it costs each person individually? 328.2 million in the US. I'd hope they all pay taxes. SO ... break it down. How much does all that stuff cost ... me. I'm not arguing that stuff doesn't get paid by us, I'm saying it's miniscule. Sort of like when someone gets mad at a cop: I PAY YOUR SALARY!

you dont say dave chappelle GIF

328 million people is an incorrect number for federal tax payers

How Iceland Beat the Coronavirus
The country didn’t just manage to flatten the curve; it virtually eliminated it.

“We started our preparations long before the first case tested positive here in Iceland,” the country’s Prime Minister said. “And it was very clear from the beginning that this was something that should be led by experts—by scientific and medical experts.”

Crazy.

I can't quite recall who it was that criticized Obama for playing much less golf. Name is escaping me....The President leads by example.  Playing golf when the nation is dying is not the vibe one might expect a leader to project.  It demonstrates that his focus is going to be on chasing a white ball around a manicured landscape instead of being on the pandemic.  Look at his twitter today--he is trying to get the people tearing down statues targeted. He is promoting a group shouting "White Power."  Was he on the golf course when he tweeted these things?  You are right-it does not matter.

I loathe Trump, don't really care what he does or doesn't do.  I just think some people have some idea that the president gets time off from being president.  He doesn't.

I don't care that Trump golfs. He can do presidential stuff anywhere. I don't care that he looks funny or screws up drinking water.

But when I golf I usually make sure I do my job first as a father and business owner.

This week, trump retweeted a video with someone saying "white power," petitioned the SCOTUS to get rid of Obamacare DURING A PANDEMIC, and was found out have known about Russia putting hits out on American soldiers. That's not all he did. And the fact that he profits off of his own golf outings is slimy at best. Hannity would have had a week long special on it.

It would be like that one inept employee skipping out for golf at noon when a critical project is due at 5:00.

Obama did his job. He was allowed to go on holiday and golf. Trump is a joke.

Alot of things get accomplished when playing golf.  It's always gotten a bad rap.  I've gotten more business done on a golf course than I ever have at a business lunch or dinner, for instance.

However if someone wants to be one of the dummies calling someone out for golfing, they deserve to be called out for golfing.

Because you can't lock up the sick, the elderly, people with health issues, etc. just because you want to "play normally". That's not the way the world works. You want to go back to work? You want to play? WEAR A MASK. If everyone wore a mask from the start we wouldn't be where we are. But the youth, and the anti-mask people have kept the pandemic afloat.

Simple question: If someone said, yes, you can go back to work. Yes, you can go to the club, and the bar. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is wear a mask. Would you wear a mask? So odd that some people still wouldn't.

Cuomo has said anyone from an at risk state that comes to NY must quarantine for 14 days. Impossible to enforce. Meanwhile, a girl on Long Island came back from a trip to Florida ... positive. Stupidly went to a party and now 85 teens have COVID. The number of people those 85 have come in contact with is pretty big I'd bet.
