Teddy is a bridge QB, not the future

The money says it all. In this market, $20M/yr for a QB isn’t franchise starting QB caliber. This says loud and clear that we’re getting a QB in this draft or the next to develop for the long run.

He’s merely a veteran being brought in to be a bridge QB to mentor and help develop a young franchise QB that we’ll draft. He’s our Alex Smith. Let’s hope we can find a Mahomes. We will still surely be in play for Trevor 1st overall next year, and could very well draft a QB in the first or second this year.

Teddy’s skill set really isn’t one to win us games with a gutted roster, it’s one to not lose games when you already have a really good team. We’re still going to suck. But he’s going to bring some serious leadership and mentoring abilities to this team to help a young QB we draft to be the future. There is zero doubt in my mind.

Exactly.  We're doing what many have been consistently saying we'll do.  There was a big change recently in the assumption Cam was staying put that may have changed the narrative a bit but this is all but expected.

I'm staying excited.  Can't just hope for a crappy season and a top pick.

Times are a changing people!

We're going to give a bum kneed Kyle Allen $20M per simply because he's familiar with Brady's offense and fumbles less.

That's reality.

Horrible comparison. Allen turned the ball over nearly as much last year as Teddy has his whole career. Bridgewater is a seasoned vet with many years of starting experience and time behind a HoF guy in Brees, who can pass that on to a young QB. He’s a tremendous leader and team guy who fits perfectly in this role. Basically Alex Smith with the Chiefs.

Let's watch him for the 5-6 weeks he's going to last behind our OL.

He managed to put up decent stats behind one of the best lines in football.

That offensive line manages to protect an immobile 40 year old QB and allows him to put up record passing stats.

Our line couldn’t manage to protect one of the toughest mobile QBs the NFL has ever seen.

This will not end well.

Right. We’re still going to win no more than 3 games, good for 1st overall pick. He doesn’t need to be healthy to mentor Sunshine.

Really a bizarre move. If you're going to move on from Cam, you hit the full reset button and pick a QB in the top 5 next year, IMO. Maybe Panthers brass is just inordinately high on TB and think he's a 10-year plan?
