It's not really relevant because we wouldn't be spending the cap money anyway during a tank. It is what it is. Better to eat it in the short term than spread it out over time. Next season and the season after we will have a ton of cap space, assuming we don't do something stupid like pay CMC $20 mil/year and pay Moton $15 mil/year.

I guess the positive would be that next off-season they would have the most cap space as they look to shape Rhule's roster right?

So many bad contracts.  Heck, you could argue that KK Short should be nervous, but I do not think he cares, as long as the check is rolling in.

You can say, "Well not all of these are Marty's deal" but many of them were extended via Marty H.  You see boys and girls, Marty creates cap space by extending his proven veterans.  They all like it because they get a few extra coins.  I also am a firm believer that Marty expects past performance to equal future returns.  That is not always the case.  Marty needs to realize that a 4-year contract given to a 30-year old RB is paying him more to decline (example).  While not the case as much now, it was his MO in the past.

So we should give large contracts to players who have proven nothing? I find this argument rediculous because no one knows whats going to happen in the future.  All you can do is base it on past performance and hope it can continue, its what every GM does.

I'm of the thought that the Panthers believe that there won't be a 2020 NFL season or, at the very least, an abbreviated one.

They are pretty much cooking the books and hitting the reset button on the franchise at this point. They are betting that dead cap, etc. will void/come off the books or have a lessened impact moving forward.

1 year deals for backups with potential. I expect you'll see us start accumulating extra draft picks soon, somehow.

They're hoping they timed their reboot well, with the state of the world right now.

    • I respect his enthusiasm. Time will tell if it's warrented.
    • Oh I went off and fully entertained my wife last night as my emails go to her phone as well because of my health. So she got the whole conversation as it happened.    Like I went to games in Detroit for the cup finals, I've been to games in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Chicago as well. My mom and her nurse friend double dated one of the players from when the team was in Greensboro. "He's still with the team in some compacity as well." I know people who work for the team at the arena as well. How the hell would I not be considered a fan. Only reason I haven't gone to a game since 2022 is because of my health and money situation. Last game I went to was at United Center in Chicago and me and my wife spent around 1k for glass seats and some food at the arena and we were next to the penalty box. The pictures of the hurricane players I took are lost because my phone crapped out a few weeks later.
    • The Falcons win was a fantastic way to end the season and I think just about every Panthers fan would agree the team the coaching staff and particularly Bryce Young were impressive. We really needed that. Credit where it's due. At the same time. Now we have to establish it wasn't just a flash in the pan. We had one of those earlier in the season against the Raiders. As a tortured Panthers fan I have to acknowledge that. I know you're joking but in all seriousness I don't think the QB sneak is something for us to be concerned about in general but I would be lying to myself if I did not acknowledge that looking back at one particular game last season where we continually trotted out Eddie Pinero on 4th and short on the opponents side of the field we could use some creativity in those situations and it's also a matter of predictability. As time goes on it's something for Canales to work on and figure out. Especially with our kicker situation as it stands.
