Bengals cut former first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick

Kirkpatrick, a first-round pick in the 2012 draft, spent eight years with the Bengals. The former Alabama product started six games at outside cornerback for Cincinnati in 2019 before he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Nov. 10.

During his time in Cincinnati, he started 67 games and made 99 appearances. He tallied 10 interceptions and 65 pass deflections.

On Tuesday, Kirkpatrick posted a goodbye note on Instagram, thanking the city and his former teammates.

EDITOR'S PICKS

"Dre was a part of the Bengals' organization for many years, and displayed passion, energy and competitiveness both on and off the field," Bengals coach Zac Taylor said in a statement. "We appreciate his many contributions to our team and community over the years, and wish him the best moving forward."

Kirkpatrick's release comes after Cincinnati's massive spending spree during free agency, in which the Bengals added cornerbacks Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander. Kirkpatrick's contract was set to expire in 2021; releasing him will give the Bengals $8.3 million in cap savings in 2020.

Wish i could poo this post more.

Do whatever makes you feel special. Just make sure you don’t actually say anything that might explain your stance. That poo button is basically.saying you’re incapable or too ignorant to make a point.

I would rather see a gaggle of nobodies fighting it out in camp over this guy. I don't expect to fix the team in 1 offseason and would rather not rely on guys like this. I'm fine with cheaper and less talented options for a year if we can't get a playable CB in the draft.

If we are trying to create a new culture, I want to be as far away from Cincinnati players as possible.

I would be extremely happy to get anyone signed that has started in the NFL at this point. We have Jackson and that’s it. We really need to get Cockrell back, and I see no way we don’t snag a CB in the draft within the first three rounds.

Did your meme light a fart?

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
