What is your 1st round surprise this year?

So every year there seems to be at least one move in the top 10 that surprises everyone.  So since we don't have anything better to do what are yours?  Doesn't have to be what you think that will happen, but has a small chance of happening.

Cincy - They seem to be a lock to take Burrow, if the trade out it will have to be a monster haul.

Washington - RR takes Simmons over Young.  He likes his LBs

Detroit - all the talk is they want to trade back or take Okuda.  Maybe they really want a QB.  If so they are playing it correctly.  Their only threat is if someone (most likely Miami) trades to 2.  By actining like they aren't interesting they are trying to convince Miami to stay put of Tua.

Giants - Everyone keeps saying Simmons or a tackle.  As LinvilleGorge said in another thread Brown screams a DG pick.

Miami - They decide not to spend the capitol to trade up and/or they aren't sold on Tua's health so they decide to spend all of their draft capitol on other positions and they sign Cam.

San Diego - They decide to draft a LT to protect Cam.

Panthers - We draft Jeudy.  We know we aren't going to be that good this year so we decide to score a lot of points while losing.  Also it will make Teddy look better which will make the decision to cut Cam seem smarter.  All talk screams defensive, just another reason to think maybe we go offense.

If we draft a WR Marty should be fired right away. WR and RB are the only positions we  don’t really need help except maybe punter

We are not good at WR.

Samuel is heavy meh.

Moore is solid and Anderson is strictly a deep threat. Given Brady’s scheme and who our QB is we need another WR.

Brandon Aiyuk!

Yeah, I think a lot of fans are really overvaluing Robby Anderson. He's been good for roughly 750 yards and 5-6 TDs over the past couple of seasons. For reference, Samuel had 627 yards and 6 TDs last season and half this fan base is seemingly ready to toss him out with the trash.  Plus, Anderson only signed a two year contract and Samuel is going into the last season of his rookie deal.

so chase young somehow falls to 7 and we pass him up for jerry jeudy, a position which is extremely deep this year and that can be had in later rounds?

ill give you points for accuracy, that's something hurney would definitely do.

This is why the Panthers will draft a reciever

San Diego??? I do it too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miami will trade up with Washington, not Detroit, to get Tua.

The Lions then take Young.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Giants trade with LAC, who moves up for Herbert, fearing being leapfrogged.

The Redskins then take CB Okudah.

The Giants trade again, this time with Jacksonville at #8 for their third rounder.   The Jags leapfrog the Panthers, talking DT Brown. (Assuming the Panthers might want him)

7.  Panthers trade:  With 3 elite tackles left, and T being a primary need for the Giants (now 8th) Cardinals (9th),  Browns (10th) and Jets (11th),  Tampa Bay moves up in a rare inter-division trade, moving from 14 to 7th to get a tackle to protect Tampa Brady.   Tampa Bay gets the #7 and #148 (the fifth rounder we got from Washington for Allen) for the #14 and #45 picks of the Buccaneers.

7.  Tampa Bay selects Wirfs OT Iowa

8. New York Giants select Simmons, OLB Clemson

9.  The Arizona Cardinals select Becton, OT Louisville

10. The Cleveland Browns grab Wills, OT, Bama

11.  The New York Jets select OT Thomas, UGA

12. The Las Vegas Raiders select WR Cee Dee Lamb, Oklahoma

13.  The San Francisco 49ers trade with Baltimore Ravens, who move up for LSU DE/OLB Claisson.

14.  The Carolina Panthers select DT Javon Kinlaw, the USC.

  • In the second round, they select Auburn CB Noah Igbinoghene and LSU C Cushenberry III
  • In the third round, the Panthers select DE Greenard, UF

I could see that. But it would seem we didn't get enough back in this trade down scenario.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
