Not many RBs have fared well in their second contract.

That is a valid point.  I have stated before that I would never have a RB on a second contract.  CMC, however, might be the exception because his work ethic is so intense and he can catch passes like a slot WR.  If he is used wisely and the coach allows his role to change, maybe he could be worth the second deal.  He does seem to avoid hits and he is unique in a bunch of ways. I think of Westbrook (Eagles) but his career hit a wall after 7 seasons.  Tomlinson was another receiving RB who was effective for about 8 seasons. Tiki Barber, the most unusual of hte receiving backs, actually got better during years 8-10.  Faulk was worth the money for 10 years. Faulk might be CMC's best comparison.  I guess the point is this---if you do not send him between the tackles, use him for passing more, maybe he would be like some of the best receiving RBs.

What do the analytics say?  If your decision making is going to be based on numbers you can’t mix in emotions or decide you don’t like the answer.  You have to go with what the equations in the black box spits  out.

of course, there is always the GIGO axiom, so you better know what you’re doing before you trade away the new face of the franchise.

Oh, and a third potential trade from Barnwell:

---

mia.png&h=110&w=110

18. Miami Dolphins (from Pittsburgh Steelers)

Trade with Carolina Panthers

Dolphins get: 1-7, 3-69
Panthers get: 1-18, 2-56, 2021 first-round pick (via HOU)

If the Dolphins draft a quarterback with the No. 5 pick, they're going to want to go after an offensive tackle to protect that passer. They addressed the interior of their line by signing Ereck Flowers and Ted Karras this offseason, but they need to draft at least one tackle with an early pick. The top four tackles could be off the board by the time Miami has its second selection at No. 18; moving up to No. 7 would likely let the team pick its favorite of the bunch. Ironically, the Dolphins would use one of the first-round picks they received from the Texans for Laremy Tunsil as part of the package.

----

A bigger drop off from no. 7 than the potential Bucs trade, but here we garner an extra 2nd rounder AND a future 1st round pick.  This one makes more sense to me.  Again, it depends on how enamored you are with our potential picks at no. 7.

I like this one best, if we hadn’t thrown away 3 comp picks next year too. 2021 draft capital is what we need if we can’t tank for the top pick. That said we’ve already screwed the pooch on the tank for Trevor so who knows. I just like the trade down in the 1st for a second first. The way Houston is effing up these trades the Houston pick in 2021 might be a solid one. I don’t want Deshaun to get hurt but O’Brien’s team is one Watson injury away from being the #1 overall pick.

CMC and #7 for #2 is atrocious.

One thing never changes.  Draft trade media consistently throw out big names being traded to large market teams from teams perceived as "small market".

Damn accuracy, let's get clicks!

Yeah, honestly the chances of any of these coming to fruition as laid out is practically zero.

rivera is a moron. offer him mccaffrey for the 2nd pick straight up and see what he says. trading mccaffrey just to move up 5 spots seems like a waste but if you could walk away with 2 top 7 picks? hard to pass that up

I would take any top 15 pick for McCaffery

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
