Another Report: Teams calling Panthers about Curtis Samuel

Yeah I know, another thread (I created one about another report before the draft), but this seems to be coming up a lot. It will be interesting to see what we do. Posted this morning 15 min ago:

The Panthers have said goodbye to several players from the final years of Ron Rivera’s run as their head coach and other teams are reportedly calling to see if they’ll send another one packing during the draft.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that teams have contacted Carolina about potentially trading for wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

Samuel was a second-round pick in 2017 and is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. He was limited to 22 games over his first two NFL seasons, but appeared in every game last year and posted 54 catches for 627 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran 19 times for 130 yards and a touchdown.

The Panthers signed Robby Anderson, Seth Roberts and Pharoh Cooper as free agents to go with leading receiver D.J. Moore on the wide receiver depth chart.

An offer of a 1st next year and I would do it.

Absolutely. Honestly I want to see what he does in the new offense, but if someone offered a 2nd or high 3rd I wouldn’t be upset with as many holes as we currently have. It all depends on what we plan to do, if he not In your long term plans, it’s good to go ahead and get value. We do have the Moton contract coming up, and we may not have enough room for a large contract. We could picks up a WR with the 2nd or high 3rd we get in return who could be just as talented and on a 4 year cheap contract. The team has said before that they don’t have any intentions of trading him, but we all know how that goes...

It'd have to be a sweet deal. We have no reason to get rid of him unless we just really want to. He has a ton of potential.

That's why it would need to be a 1st for me to sign off on it.  Anything less and I would just keep him and see how he does in the news offense.  But Hurney gonna Hurney.

Here's the irony of the whole situation: If Samuel is so "average" why are teams interested in trading for him?  It didn't say the Panthers were shopping him, but other teams are expressing interest.  I find it odd Samuel gets dumped on so much, but for some crazy reason other teams are interested in him.  So who's right, the Samuel haters or these other teams?

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
