Everything seems to point to him having much better character and smarts than Hardy, too.

Honestly, I'm hoping for Mike Rucker-type production from him and I think that is definitely within his capabilities.

I just watched his highlights, I didn't expect him to look that good. We're going to have a very strong DL.

Not for a couple of seasons or more. We have some draft picks left to accelerate that process but right now we are looking at being a bunch of rookies, second year players and KK. We have a lot of misfit pieces currently, as well.

But, we definitely have some talent there, that is for sure.

That seems to be the plan

Walterfootball does a nice little post-draft set of write ups about why certain players fell in the draft. It will be interesting to see if YGM gets a blurb.

A lot of it has to do with runs on players.

6 CBs i believe went in the 1st and 4 QBs.

Thats 10 out of 32 on just those 2 positions.  Hence why it also pushed All the safeties out of the 1st round

And some positions are just stronger in certain drafts. He's also a pretty raw guy and more of a project than a finished product.

Why didn’t he run a 40 at the combine though?

Checking in at the NFL Scouting Combine 6-foot-5, 266 pounds, Gross-Matos was not a full testing participant in Indianapolis, though he did show off his explosiveness in key areas and boasted the widest wingspan (82 1/4 inches) of all edge rushers in attendance. He was unable to build upon that performance, or produce a 40-yard dash time with a collection of league scouts watching, at annual Penn State Pro Day action, which was scheduled for March 17 but didn't occur due to coronavirus concerns.

Former Nittany Lions defensive line coach Sean Spencer previously confirmed Gross-Matos completed the 40-yard dash with a sub-4.6 result during his days on campus.

(Pick 38) Carolina Panthers: EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State — Gross-Matos has some really intriguing pass-rush skill, even if his game isn’t yet refined. He's a good athlete and could be a really nice player, especially lining up next to Derrick Brown and across from Brian Burns. Matt Rhule is building his new team on the defensive side of the ball first and will try to win games 17-13 until he has this thing built up.

This take amuses me.  Only a week ago, the general talk here was that we were building up the offensive skill players to win shootouts.

Could this develop into a 'balanced' team?  Hmmm.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
