So far this year it looks like keeping Hurney to draft was a great idea.

Disagree, but to each their own.

IMO, there is never any reason to keep mediocrity around your business, home, bank, car, etc...

We know what he is, 3 days does not change that...just like 4 years off didn't change it.

And what does that tell you that this same blatantly incompetent GM has been kept across two different ownerships?

To me, it's one of three things:

A) He's more knowledgable and competent than he gets credit for.

B) He's truly a "Yes man", and both owners were fairly meddling and simply wanted someone to carry out their vision.

C) His days are numbered and Tepper simply needed time to find the right replacement.

B is most likely to me...in which case, like I said, he's a symptom of a broader disease and all this hatred towards Hurney is misplaced.

So far, Tepper has shown me that he wants things done his way, Jerry was sorta the same, but I actually believe that Tepper wants to win, he's just going to take some time to figure out how to do it.

To your A, B, C, question...I think the closest description is B, like you.  Marty will do whatever the coach and owner want....and that's not a good thing.

Also, let's slow down on the hatred stuff...I don't hate Marty Hurney, I hate that he is employed by the NFL team I like.  I would have no issues what so ever going fishing with him all day, just don't want him controlling my favorite team any longer (p.s. I never did).

We draft the players the can make the difference. Coaching is the outlier. We have never been able to put it all together simultaneously. Sad to say our most talented rosters haven't been as successful as less talented ones. The Super Bowl roster from a few years back wasn't as good as 2013. 2017 was probably our most talented all around but we couldn't get past the Saints to save our lives. I blame the injuries Olsen and Ryan Khalil for a lot of our unfortunate loses, two players usually wouldn't make a huge difference but from a leadership and the fat that they both are All Pros are hard to deny missing.

Nothing mediocre about this draft. He and Rhule did a great job.

    • That depends on where he's at because if you look at his first 3 seasons before he got sick he had 49 rec as a rookie followed by 56 and then his pro bowl season he had 103 rec. If he's somewhere between seasons 2 and 3 then that wouldn't be bad at all. We'll have to wait and see but from the few clips I've seen and the comments I've heard and read I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. Personally, I'm really pulling for him and I think he's going to be the comeback player of the year.
    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh?
