Why don't we just cancel it for the next 2-3 years? No guarantee there will be a viable vaccine or one that doesn't cause serious side effects. Everyone stay in your basements. I hope you enjoyed having football until now because its gone forever.

Or, we could tests and let the players play who aren't positive (the vast majority).

There are plenty of acceptable outcomes and ways to handle things besides the extreme ridiculous examples you suggest. Imagine playing with 30 players who still didn't get sick or losing your QB or star player for weeks while they recover. Or paying big bucks to watch a dozen practice squad guys start.

Studies have already shown that COVID is most contagious when temps are in the mid-40s. It's going to have a seasonal aspect to it just like other coronaviruses. This is a new coronavirus, but human coronaviruses aren't a wholly new phenomenon. By and large, they're seasonal.

Most folks in the South spend summer in the air conditioning which is 70 to 80 degrees and does nothing to mitigate the virus. Covid 19 is not comparable to SARs or the Corona viruses that cause the common cold.given Covid 19 spreads much easier and with asymptomatic folks being up to 50%, it spreads before you even know you are sick. I don't see it slowing down in the South but rather getting worse despite the heat. But I agree that this fall is going to be worse.

There are many ways to handle things. There will be nothing to handle if there is no season.

The sad thing is that what you're seeing right now is this virus spreading in a slower fashion in terms of R0. It'll be a lot more contagious this fall and winter.

That's pretty much me. The variables are pretty crazy. One 'rona bloom could wreck the season if it took down a team or two for a couple of weeks. I guess the question is if the NFL and NFLPA are ready to deal with that possibility. It would be like the injury bug on steroids.

I don’t see how this would work without a season long quarantine of all players and coaches (which isn’t going to happen)

If one person on a team tests positive, you have to assume the entire team has been exposed.

That team would then be out for two weeks at least. The entire schedule is then shot.

How do you determine playoff and draft order if some teams play more games than others?

Total cluster.

this is why I don't think it is realistic to have anything close to a normal NFL season.  and teams are too massive to really quarantine an entire team for weeks...

I own a company that hires medical professionals for healthcare facilities. One of the positions that I often fill is that of an Epidemiologist. I talk to them regularly, so I have some insight into what lots of different PhD's are thinking about COVID-19. THere are lots of different thoughts on who to do and how to best help the population. However, the thing that they all agree on, that no one is talking about, is this virus is here to stay. It's not going away.

Very true. We’re all being unrealistic thinking we can make this thing go away forever.

Masks are shown to help substantially, but folks seem to be allergic to them.

We’re in for a long few years.

Yeah, I agree. Even though the actual danger to the average NFL player is probably far lower than to the rest of the population, we are still in the Coronaverse.

    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
