Prime position for Lawrence

Comparing NBA Players to NFL players is foolish.  Different sport, fewer people involved, far easier for one person to make a difference.  Its a lot easier to say a guy who only shares a court with 4 other players is going to be a difference maker than a football player who depends on so much else to be successful.  If Trevor Lawrence played for Northwestern, very few would even know who he is.  But if a great bball player plays for a relatively small school, he can make a world of difference, as Larry Bird did.

And you missed my point.  I was primarily referring to all the comments about tanking to get specific players.  I grant that if we are in position to draft Lawrence, maybe we should.  But intentionally trying to get into position of drafting a guy who may or may not be a success in the NFL is a waste of time.

As far one being higher rated than the other, how do you quantify that, ie determine who is rated higher?  Jameis Winston was the highest rated qb in the draft during his year.  Many pundits rated him a sure fire success.  Trevor Lawrence will be the highest rated qb coming out this year unless something drastic happens.  Not sure you can say that one is or will be rated higher than the other.  I have seen some guys in an effort to get clicks on their site use measurements and math formulas.    Most of those end up meaningless.

If you look at the list of today's elite quarterbacks, almost none of them were the top graded qb's in their draft class.  Mahomes was not, Lamar Jackson was not, Watson was not.  Can't remember if Aaron Rogers was, but the point remains.  Aiming for a specific player by losing enough games is almost always a waste of time.   To difficult to get in that position, and no way to ensure the player is actually worth it until they are on the field.

Tank for Trevor is as stupid as anything that I have read around here, or elsewhere.

The point, is to make sure that you are in the very best position to target the very best player available, at the most important position.  You can't sit here and say that Mahommes wasn't drafted 1, or Jackson, etc...No, the teams that drafted QB's higher that year missed...just simply missed on the better player.  Bad player evaluation is all that can be chalked up to.  The Bears should have absolutely pulled the trigger...they passed.

If you were to ask Andy Reid if he would have rather drafted 13th, or 3rd the year Mahommes came out, what do you think he would say?

Nobody is saying otherwise. The point is that they will lose a lot this year but hopefully we will land our future franchise QB. Just picture two years from now Derrick Brown and Jeremy Chinn dominating on defense while Lawrence,  CMC and hopefully DJ Moore lead us to the promised land on offense

lets have a talk about DJ, he fuging sucked out there yesterday.

Player evaluations in and of themselves are going to be flawed.  A team needs good talent evaluators, but even the best strike out a high percentage of the time.  Personally, I think there is a significant amount of luck involved.   Or bad decisions on the part of other teams.  Or some combination there of.

Regarding your question about Reid, I think that depends on when he was asked.  Before the draft, probably would have said third.  Now, I am sure he is perfectly happy with where he drafted.  A more interesting question would be, if he had picked third, or better yet, first that year, would he still have taken Mahomes?  I am sure he would say that he would, but without the ability to look at alternative futures, we don't really know.

I don't see more than 3 wins on this schedule

I think we beat the broncos and lions and thats it

I think it’s possible we get 5. That is to me the best possible scenario after losing week one. Winnable games left:

Lions

Bears

Falcons

Broncos

@ Washington

Maybe the saints aren’t playing week 17 and we get that one too

only real competition i see us having for lawrence...

Lions - Stafford old, tried to trade him in the offseason, probably too much talent to lose more games but who knows

Bears - Biscuits is terrible, again would be surprised if they out lose the panthers

Jets - they still have Sam Darnold so I think losses are irrelevant

Browns - logic says they wouldn't give up on Baker yet but who the fug knows

Colts - don't think they get the losses but they could draft him

Jags - could, depends on minshew

Broncos - they could fall apart without Von Miller

really looking at that i think the only competition we have for actual losses AND would draft a QB are the Lions and Bears.

but i also think that if we'll absolutely trade a lot to grab lawrence if it's feasible

Chiefs already proved you can pull that off.

Panthers are gonna be in a position next year where a good rookie qb can slide in a be successful, then you have 3 years until you gotta pay him. Build the corp, grab the qb, lure a couple decent ring chasing free agents, and boom.

nah i think if jets are sitting first overall sam darnold is getting kicked out of ny. though it would be a jets move to keep him and draft greg rossou or something

Of course Andy would have rather kept that 1 and 3 he had to give up, and I cannot imagine for a moment that he would have taken Mitch, and he had a shot at Watson and passed.  He was headhunting for PM, and it would have been easier, and less costly, to be in the better draft position.

Let's also not forget, Andy had a good team that season before....we ALL (anyone who pays attention to football) knew we were going to have a bad season...it's just head scratching from a team building perspective.

I think we start off 0-5.  I think it'll come down to the Bears game.  Our defense is terrible, but so is their offense.  However if we lose that game and fall to 0-6?  Barring upsets it would be a wrap for us.  We play the Saints, Falcons, Chiefs, and Bucs after that.  After we play the Lions, we have another tough stretch of Vikings, Broncos (better team this year than people will be expecting), Packers, and finish the season against the Chiefs.

This is a 3-13 or 4-12 team with the potential to go 2-14.  We'd need our first year offense to continue out-dueling some of the league's best offenses to have a chance, or our defense to miraculously get better, to have any chance.  If this team hits 5 or 6 wins?  Rhule is a G.

If your third year QB is playing poorly enough to have you in the #1 overall draft spot it's time to move on.

    • How do you expect him to step up in the pocket when Ickey is being pushed to the spot you want him to be. Stills don’t tell the entire picture.
    • They're examples of denying reality. Here are some others: ,- Bryce is the worst QB in the NFL right now (no he isn't) - Bryce is the worst QB in NFL history (no he's not; that's stupid) - Well then Bryce is at least the the worst QB in the league over the last three years (nope, he's actually improved a lot since year one, which was a turbulent year anyway) - That's not true, he hasn't Improved one but since his rookie year (oh come on) 🙄 - Well, even if he did, we can't win with him (obviously we can) - Yeah but not unless everyone else is damn near perfect (think the game film from our wins this year would back that up?) - Even so, we won those games in spite of him (officially the stupidest argument available) And no, those are made up. You can find those quotes and other equally moronic statements in various threads around the board. I know some folks always need to characterize whatever they're against as the worst thing in existence. It's hyperbole, and it's hypersilly. Likewise, you've got some who are so absolutely emotional about it that even if you think Bryce isn't good enough (which I do) they'll still call you a stan if you don't agree to label him the lousiest passer in existence 🙄 It's just dumb, and it's not realistic. But on the flipside, here are some statements which are; - Bryce is indeed capable of both playing in, and winning, an NFL game. Not on a consistent level though, and consistency is huge. - He is also capable of completing mid-range and even some deep passes; hell, he threw a beauty this past Sunday  - Yes, he has improved over his rookie season and over last year. Arguing against that is disingenuous. - Believe it or not, other players are the roster do make mistakes in games also.  - And lastly, while I know it hurts some people's narrative and arguments, Bryce does indeed deserve credit for the winning games he's played in this season. ... Every single one of those statements is true. And since i acknowledge all that, I must be in favor of keeping him in place then Except I'm not 😕 ... Don't know of anyone who doesn't think he'll get the fifth year option. Not ready to guarantee anything beyond that, though. So bottom line: Yeah, Bryce is fully expected to be our quarterback through next year. If there were a logical, realistic path to acquire a more capable starter and transition Bryce to a backup I'd be elated, but that's a pipe dream. This where we're at  I don't **** it, you don't like it, others don't either. But here We are so let's make the best of it that we can.
    • What does it matter how fast the wrs are with Bryce he is not hitting them anyway
