Pretty stark contrast here.

If you watch the secondary, Tre Boston was in single high with Burris down in the box covering the TE in man.  Why does he jump to cover the underneath route and not help the rookie who is all alone man v. man?

It has been my observation for a while now that Boston will always choose whatever requires less effort and/or contact.

What happened to all those folks who thought the D Line was going to be a monster, and who just knew in their hearts that KK would have a bounce back year?

When do folks learn?

Big men, over 30, coming off injury....you typically can't count on them to do much...and you certainly can't overpay for them.

We are doing both, like normal.

We kept the  wrong guy.  Star is balling out in Bufallo

No, we didn't.  Star is very good, KK was very good.

Problem is, our GM doesn't know when to cut bait, and certainly doesn't understand just how F'ing stupid these restructures are.  On top of that, instead of drafting replacements and grooming them, we just keep the overpaid lazy guy on the roster because we need a Grier.

I watched the condensed game 3 or 4 times while waiting for the All-22 and am excited to see if it confirms some of my current thoughts.

The primary ones being that Stephen Weatherly was our best DL while Marquis Haynes was our worst. Everybody made mistakes, but everybody with the exception of Zach Kerr flashed plays (Kerr wasn't bad like Haynes, but he wasn't good either). Roy was surprising, Brown was impressive, Short was a LOT better than I initially thought, and Obada played incredibly well with his limited snaps.

Burns is awesome, but two of the Raiders runs that set them up for short yardage conversions were because he ran up field and didn't contain. Yetur was damn near invisible as well, but he was constantly hustling which you like to see. I loved seeing him and Brown always being in the pile if Jacobs happened to scamper several yards downfield from the line of scrimmage.

Troy Pride Jr needs a year to learn. The Ruggs completion to set up their first Jacobs TD was because Troy followed the WR in man rather than setting back in cover 3 like the call looked to be (from what I could tell). Shaq had a play or two where he was caught out of position as well, but he was able to make up for it with his closing speed.

Speaking of motors, Juston Burris brings it on every play even if he's nowhere near it.

KK did get blown up 5 yards back on one snap, but that man was also consistently the first lineman off of the ball and drew multiple double teams while also getting good pressure as an end when we showed 3-4 looks

This was the most noticeable Haynes was all game.

Kinda hard to understand why we kept KK at this point. Unless they were desperate for some continuity. I just have to imagine that even if he does have something left in the tank that it has to be hard to be motivated with all the turnover he's witnessed along the highs and lows.

Was he in single high or was he tasked with playing a "robber" role? Honestly we don't know.

** deleted because this was inadvertently/potentially viewed as racist. I do apologize for any insensitivities, it certainly was not my intention to do so. **

    • If we were a solid winning organization most of us would have no problems with this selection. We would have had a capable starter in place to allow him to be eased into the rotation. If were told prior to the draft that he had been completely cleared health wise, we "probably" wouldn't have a ton of reservations about this selection. If we had picked this young man on Day 3 of the draft most of us would have no problems with this selection because we wouldn't have had to use draft capital to move up and get him. Unfortunately, none of the above were true 1)  We were a terrible team in 2023 and needed an immediate impact player. 2)  He was hurt near the the end of the 2023 NCAA season. We traded up to get him even though we knew he wasn't medically cleared to play in 2024. 3) When training camp started we were hearing stories that the knee wasn't ready. That alone should have raised some red flags. I personally would have red-shirted him in 2024 in order to have him ready for 2025. We had Chubba as our lead back and other guys to fill the #2 and #3 spots on the depth chart. There was no need to rush Brooks unto the field in 2024. Here's our draft history in the 2nd round between 2021 and 2024 2021 TMJ 2022 No draft choice. We picked Matt Corall in round 3 (#94) as our only Day 2 pick. 2023 Jonathan Mingo 2024 Jonathon Brooks. We have taken 4 skill players on Day 2 of the draft for the past 4 years who have contributed absolutely nothing to the offensive side of the football. 3 are no longer on the team. Two of them are no longer in the NFL. One  could possibly never start a game due to a knee injury. This type of poor drafting is why this team has been so bad for the entire decade.
    • Even limited as he was I still don't think they have replaced his production, and not just the sack stats. The games Clowney missed it was very obvious what his value still was. Risky move but whatever. They only had 32 sacks last year and if that drops then it's going to get ugly. I see the improvement in run stopping but not in pass protect in any way.
    • I have zero issues with this.
