In which I stay positive and the Panthers haters rage

Yeah, when it comes to Panthers management, Multi-billionaire David Tepper has no excuse (based on a contract) for holding on to a bad apple like Hurney.

I had some misgivings about Tepper pretty shortly in(especially for not canning Hurney and Rivera). Then came the Cam decision, then came the "all college" coaching staff(which may turn out fine, admittedly).

Nothing is more damning that Hurney still being here, however. That makes me think Tepper really doesn't know what he is doing.

We had thought Hurney's contract was up at the end of this season. Turns out it's through next July so, barring any changes, he's got one more offseason free agency and draft coming.

Person has said he thinks Tepper is inclined to give him at least one more year.

Here's hoping he's wrong.

If Hurney is brought back for another offseason something needs to be done. Tepper cannot get away with this garbage. This is where our local media will always be a crutch. They won’t hold people accountable. They allowed Jerry Richardson to shave legs for 2 decades.

Excellent perspective @Jeremy Igo!

This looks like an NFL team.  Not a good one, but a competitive team that's going to fight.

I'll take it rather than the half ass games we're used to getting.  In time, we'll get better.  This is going to be a much more exciting team come November/December, thankfully!

It's entirely possible we are much worse in late Nov/Dec. We definitely have been competitive so far but it is also possible attrition may make our situation far worse(we'll get a sneak peek at this the next 4-8 weeks).

What’s up with Ian Thomas? Is he even out on the field? Anytime a TE is making a catch, it’s Manhertz.

Looking like we’ll need to go TE in the draft or free agency.

I was saying that before the draft, but the response here was just crickets. Everyone said Ian Thomas was going to make it. I said, no one had seen any real evidence of that in a game so far. They said I wasn't paying attention.

I'm still seeing nothing from Ian Thomas except for a continuing stint on riding the bench. I wish we were seeing more, but when you are actually calling plays that include a pass to Manhertz, a blocking specialist(???really???) TE, then you can't be thinking your pass catching tight end can do the job.

What happened next was competitive and the first game was completely competitive with a chance to win.  You can't change the truth no matter how bad you want the team to be

You just did. The truth was Carolina was down 21-0 in the second quarter, and come back but still lost. Sorry, that's not competitive. LOL.

It's possible but they are using him like a RB in New England and he is healthy so far.

Ehhh... I don't agree having watched last night.  I only caught highlights of his first game so can't comment. But last night was a reminder of how dominant Cam can be with his arm and legs.  Play calls were weird on 3rd downs but he wasn't being used as a RB at all

More of a reference to the first game than last night. They are definitely designing an offense to utilize his legs, which will lead to more wear and tear on his body.

TBD the result of that. If he withstands the beating in NE, it will be a very, very, very, very, very, very, very bad look for the Panthers.

Was New England not competitive in Super Bowl 51 (which they won) because they were down 28-3 at one point? What weird logic...
