Nah. I think he might be damaged goods at this point. Hard pass.

I'd sign him on a low cost free agent deal, if available. We definitely don't have a good back up option.

This.  I've seen many QBs that "coulda been contedahs" except that their initial gig was a team that absolutely destroyed them.  Darnold looks to be the next victim, through no real fault of his own.

Maybe on a Jameis Winston-type contract with the Saints it would be worth a shot.  But not a Hurney "Diamond in the Rough Deal."

Absolutely wouldn't mind kicking the tires on him, he has terrific arm talent and a good head on his shoulders. Adam Gase is a cancer and no one likes him, and he's hindering that whole team. Isn't it impressive how much Tannehill has improved now that he's away from Gase? Look at how many players have improved since he's left Miami/they left Miami.

However outside of that eh? Wouldn't want to trade for him really.

Damaged goods, you say? Like I mentioned in my one-man train of picking Sewell over the other QBs. No one has changed my mind about putting a great 1-5 overall pick behind a joke of NFL line(like the 2021 panthers one). Not high on sitting a #1 pick 1-2 years either, while you try to fix the OL. Fix the OL FIRST!!!

I got to eat some crow about him tho, I completely disowned Gettleman after he passed on Darnold for Saquad. I thought he would be a top ten QB within a couple years. Funny part is Gase is a QB guru, Peyton speaks very highly of him. Doesnt seem fit to be a HC, needs to drop back a few levels.

Devil's Advocate here: Wasn't Ryan Tannehill damaged goods not that long ago?

Only because he's dirt cheap and expendable I'm afraid.  I hope I am wrong on that one but my gut is in knots hoping Cam makes it through the season up there.

He's looked pretty good so far.

Realistically speaking though, whether or not he makes it through a full season healthy is a valid question.

    • So we cut him if we don't give him the option?  I'm pretty sure there are players who didn't get the 5th-year option that played year four of their rookie contracts with their draft team.
    • I didn't say do nothing if we don't draft one in the 1st and I"m not counting on a FA to magically become a franchise QB. But signing a FA to be our starter for the year and then re-address the next offseason would be FAR better than reaching on the wrong QB in the 1st this offseason. Feeling we HAVE to find our long term solution just because we need a new QB is how we got into this mess.  We thought Two Gloves would be at worst an average level QB for a few years, that didn't happen, so we went out and traded for Darnold.  That didn't work so we went out and traded for Baker, that didn't work so we went out and traded up to get Bryce. Our last 4 QB moves were all trying to force a solution, none of them worked out, and we're still trying to find Cam's replacement all these years later.  We'd just have been better off spending a year or two building up the rest of the team and going year to year on FA QB's while doing so.  I get it, it will be frustrating to deal with, but then when you find that actual long term solution, they plug right into an already built out roster and you're ready to contend immediately.
    • Great win, should be 3-0 but I'll take 2-1. LaMelo is an MVP caliber player, period.   This is looking like an incredible draft so far. Sion James looking like the exact type of role player that all contending teams need to have, absolute steal in the 2nd. Kalk is a work in progress and I question how much upside he has but he's already been a considerable upgrade at C for us compared to the last several years (outside of healthy Mark which of course was rare).   Really seems like new ownership/front office has change the culture here significantly. Every guy looks bought in now.
