With CMC out for a few weeks, Mike Davis takes over at runningback. Davis has 10 starts in the NFL and the full confidence of his coaching staff. 

Against Tampa Bay, Davis played the last three series after McCaffrey left, and ended up setting a career high with 74 receiving yards on eight catches. That is nothing to sneeze at. 

Rhule spoke about Davis at his presser. 

“Mike Davis is a starting tailback in the National Football League. He got out there and made some great catches, was physical, he was ready when his number was called,” Rhule said. “He’s a big back, he runs with power, he runs good routes, has good hands, can block. He’s real intelligent. He’ll play well for us."

Life without Christian McCaffrey might actually be a good thing for this team in the long term. Overreliance on a single player doesn't win many football games (see 2019). Now is the time for the entire offense to each pick themselves up a notch individually and improve the offense as a whole. All while CMC gets to add longevity to his career as he rests. Win-Win. 

This new twist in the 2020 Carolina Panthers season won't exactly make winning games any easier, but it will definitely be interesting to watch.

Agree 100% about we should not be in the habit of relying too much on one single player. We did that with Cam for far too long. Certainly not glad Cmac is injured but i like many others am happy he will take less wear ands tear this season which as mentioned before will go down with an asterisk.

And yeah, glad Davis will get some plays in and build himself up more also!

It will be interesting to see if the playcalling is any different with Davis in going forward, because if the last game was any indication it did not appear that it changed that much. I have liked what I have seen from Brady so far minus a few plays (especially bubble screens) and excited for him to grow into a really good OC moving forward. I don't think that fear of losing out on coordinators will be justified this year or even next, depending on how we do, and if history is an indicator year three should be not just good but leaps and bounds better.

I’ve thought about the implications of losing our best guy and you can definitely spin it positively. Think the KB injury in 2015 which saw Cam spread the ball evenly and allowed the emergence of an otherwise irrelevant cast of receivers. I don’t think it’ll necessarily be all doom a gloom for the next several weeks while CMC is out.

It's good for the future and brutal for the present. Let's get a real good look at life without a superstar on the field on gameday.

Also comparing this to 2015 where we lost KB is incorrect. It would be like having KB but loosing Cam....and Luke. We have no one above good on this team ATM and not enough of those. This is a depleted roster and I think we will see that this weekend after a team gets to game plan on that fact all week.

It will be interesting to see what happens and if anyone steps up. I am excited to see whats what.

yeah but have you seen how davis runs?   he does that thing with his feet and legs where they're like alternating in motion propelling him in a direction.  i mean its crazy.  and he has shoes on too.    god this joke started off bad and then just died half way thru.

I like Davis but it was evident that the D completely stopped respecting us once CMC didn't come back. They looked more aggressive and less conservative. Now with film on Davis and without CMC I would expect more of that.

We need a RB more similar to Warrick Dunn on the roster. This would stop the OC from riding CMC into the ground and we would see a mix of both backs. So long as CMC doesn't have any competition even close to his ability the OC will ignore (and rightly so) the lesser RBs. The OC wants to keep his job, and the best way to do that is ride CMC into the ground in the short term.

When CMC returns you won't see much of anything at all from the other RBs.

      So we cut him if we don't give him the option?  I'm pretty sure there are players who didn't get the 5th-year option that played year four of their rookie contracts with their draft team.

      I didn't say do nothing if we don't draft one in the 1st and I"m not counting on a FA to magically become a franchise QB. But signing a FA to be our starter for the year and then re-address the next offseason would be FAR better than reaching on the wrong QB in the 1st this offseason. Feeling we HAVE to find our long term solution just because we need a new QB is how we got into this mess.  We thought Two Gloves would be at worst an average level QB for a few years, that didn't happen, so we went out and traded for Darnold.  That didn't work so we went out and traded for Baker, that didn't work so we went out and traded up to get Bryce. Our last 4 QB moves were all trying to force a solution, none of them worked out, and we're still trying to find Cam's replacement all these years later.  We'd just have been better off spending a year or two building up the rest of the team and going year to year on FA QB's while doing so.  I get it, it will be frustrating to deal with, but then when you find that actual long term solution, they plug right into an already built out roster and you're ready to contend immediately.

      Great win, should be 3-0 but I'll take 2-1. LaMelo is an MVP caliber player, period.   This is looking like an incredible draft so far. Sion James looking like the exact type of role player that all contending teams need to have, absolute steal in the 2nd. Kalk is a work in progress and I question how much upside he has but he's already been a considerable upgrade at C for us compared to the last several years (outside of healthy Mark which of course was rare).   Really seems like new ownership/front office has change the culture here significantly. Every guy looks bought in now.
