pump the brakes

Before this week, 6-10 was my optimism.

Let's say we get lucky and split the Saints.

Let's say Atlanta is as bad as advertised, but we still drop a dud in one of those.

Let's say Chicago can't get their QB situation figured out.

We ain't beating Green Bay or KC as we stand right now.

We might be able to beat Ron later on in the year.

Maybe we can beat TB in Charlotte.

We should beat the Broncos, but you never know.

Toss up one W between Minnesota and Detroit.

Max optimism, 9-7.

Anything better is cool.

Anything worse is expected.

Looking at our remaining schedule, I only see 4 more losses against the Saints (split), Bears, Chiefs and Packers. The rest of the schedule is cake. No reason at all why we shouldn’t finish 10-6 and easily make the playoffs this year.

Bears are not looking so hot anymore either.  They only put up 11 points yesterday.  I think that is a very winnable game.

we've beaten two not so great teams and gotten beat by two not so great teams, so this feels a little premature

I agree it's premature, but I think the Cardinals are a pretty solid playoff contending team. That was a big win.

I definitely wrote the Cardinals off as a loss.

I think they were outcoached, which is promising imho. That's why I am somewhat more optimistic.

Let's see what Atlanta does tonight and when we go down to ATL before we get too eager to get our hopes up.

Pump the brakes, you’re embarrassing yourself. I see between 6 to 8 wins this year which is really good considering we’re rebuilding.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
