How NFL executives view Rhule

Interesting and somewhat flattering comments about Rhule:

Which coach has done the most with the least?

• Panthers coach Matt Rhule didn’t get a single Coach of the Year vote, probably because you don’t get that sort of award without a winning record. But he was mentioned by eight different personnel people in response to this question. “Rhule has his team in every game, they look sound, and seem to play good, complementary football,” said an AFC exec. This is a guy who was coaching at Baylor a year ago and had no offseason to implement his culture and schematic approach. Impressive.” An NFC exec added, “Competitive in every game with a young, rebuilding roster, and without their best player [Christian McCaffrey] for a good majority of the season.” And then there was this from another AFC personnel director: “Rhule’s right behind Brian [Flores] in terms of getting a very thin and young roster to compete at such a high level in Year 1, with no preseason. Regardless of record, no one expects an easy day at the office facing Matt and the Panthers. Future’s bright in Carolina.”

College coaches in the NFL do not have good track record--the difference? Rhule gets the most out of men, and the others were good recruiters that lost their edge when there was a draft and cap.  Pete Carroll has a lot in common with Rhule in that regard. I see more participation and motivation at the bottom of the roster.  He makes average players good, good players great.  I will take it.

We're competitive against every team, even the SB champion Chiefs, with one of the worst rosters in the NFL.  Next season we will cut a few players, KK for example, and we'll have cash for new good free agents and high draft picks replacing poop players. If Rhule can compete with this roster, then he can win with a much better one. The future is bright for the first time in a long time.

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
