I'd give anything for Howell. Big arm, great deep thrower, good decision maker, accurate, decent throwing on the move, and absolutely cold blooded. That defense puts him in awful situation after awful situation and he gives them a chance every week.

Howell is definitely growing on me.

I don’t see elite athletic traits either. But he has the arm strength to throw 15 yard outs and hit people deep. He isn’t going to run much but he’s completing 68% of his passes in his career in the SEC. Almost 600 passes. What was the elite traits Tua had? Burrow didn’t have elite traits either. Brady, Brees, Ryan didn’t have any elite traits either. People hate division rivals but a 15 year run of Brees here or Matt Ryan would have established a new precedent for what is good in Carolina. This franchise has been plagued by when a QB is good they aren’t good for too long.

The elite trait I saw from Burrow was the ability to throw the same ball no matter what. He could be running, feet all over the place, throwing across his body, whatever. The ball came out the same way no matter what. That's rare and it's valuable. It's one of the things that has made guys like Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes so hard to defend.

If Jax does go with Fields I'm curious what they would want for Minshew. He's on the outs right now and we all know Jax is a shitshow. He's had some games where he's looked good and some not so great. Would it be worth it to bring him in for the right price? If we don't think Lance or Wilson is worth the 1st and TB isn't the answer, is it worth a look?

Trey Lance is the fancier QB because of his mobility. My only concern is that he’s from a small school. However, Carson Wentz did come out of there. I just think that Lance’s ceiling is Deshaun Watson. Watson has never impressed me that much and is doing nothing to help his team win this season. Zach Wilson is the type of players that could potentially take a team to a championship. Don’t forget about Mac Jones. Kid is talented and isn’t a AJ McCarron or Greg McElroy. Bill Belichick has drafted plenty of Bama players in his career. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bill make a play for Mac.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if Wilson might actually be faster.

Minshew literally cannot throw the ball more than 10 yards. It would just be like bringing in another Teddy. Admittedly he does have more "swag" than TB, but who cares really.

Problem is that with Rhule, we are not supposed to be in a position to have a chance at Howell or DJ the next year or two. If we are, we might be looking at another head coach or you’re going to have to give the house for one of them.

2022-2023 was Teppers target years with Rhule. He specifically said 2 years to be competitive.

MHS's BIG BOARD  (since you all were worried about my opinion)  If Bridgewater is hurt, we need a QB.  I am starting to question his durability--and Marty's OL.

  • 1.  Lawrence, QB
  • 2.  Fields QB
  • 3.  Sewell LT
  • 4.  Wilson QB
  • 5.  Lance QB
  • 6.  Parsons MLB
  • 7.  Rousseau DE  (A trio of Burns, YGM, and Rousseau would be brutal--replacement for Weatherly)
  • 8.  Farley CB (Not many saying this, but he is the best fit for us and the best CB)
  • 9.  Surtain, CB
  • 10.  Leatherwood, LT

Basically, if we are going to draft a QB not names Lawrence or Fields, I think there is only 1 player I could justify drafting over a QB--since we have no real depth at QB now.   To me, the thing to do is to draft a qb,

We all expect this team under Rhule to keep getting better each year. Yes the target is 2022-2023. Back to what I said, in my post. What makes you think that we would be in a position to draft Sam Howell in 2022 then? If Sam keeps it up, he will be a top 5 pick. We shouldn’t be drafting top 5 in 2022 or 2023. Right now, with Rhule as a rookie head coach we are 8th or 9th in standings.

What makes you think they are going to draft a "first round" QB this year with so many other holes and a QB on a big deal for a few more years?

Because Teddy hasn’t shown anything this season to provide that he’s a franchise QB. There’s a reason why quarterback is the most sought after position in the league whether that is in free agency or the draft. Go look at the standings. Look at the teams at the top of their divisions and then look at the teams in the bottom.

You can do better than that hyperbole.
