Talk to me about Trask

Kyler seems to be solidifying himself as a "future" elite QB, although it's probably early to anoint him yet. Burrow has looked okay for what he is working with but he's also by far the least impressive first round rookie QB this season(behind Herbert, Tua). I'd say the book is pretty clearly out on him.

I am in no way saying Kyler is a bad qb or anything like that.  He is fun to watch, quick with a good arm.  But I would be nervous as hell about him just taking a killer shot because of his size and the way he just takes off running.  I get he is quick and all but he is going to get hit at some point.  All of the runners do.

Lastly, I'm STILL not sold on Lamar Jackson. Guys just too inaccurate for me to keep saying he has "it." He's been very pedestrian this year, numbers wise.

Book is out on Lamar only because of the coaching in Baltimore.   They got to turn him loose in order for people to know the answer.  Baltimore's offensive scheme (while it works).....is also garbage at the same time.

To be fair, Mayfield had great numbers his last year. But, it wasn't anything compared to Kyler's or Burrows. Winston had some records his first year starting..............after that............well.

I was never a fan of Mariota. Just meh to me.

Back to Murray. Huge fan of his coming out of OU, I wanted to trade Cam, a first rounder for him, and whatever else needed to be traded for him. I knew he was going to be good. Watched him a ton in College. Kid just has it.

I wasn't that high on Murray last season until I started looking into the advanced stats and saw how impressive he actually was. I think you are seeing a lot more of that on tape this year than last year but having receivers like that doesn't hurt. I am definitely a fan of the kid, he's got some definite Russell Wilson aspects to his game, IMO.

I agree on Lamar, he needs to show that MVP season wasn't an aberration. That's the one thing you can say about Mahomes, it was very obvious, very early what he was.

Always be way of college football records. Go through the record books and you will see why.

The names Tim Couch and Timmy Chang come to mind.

As to Trask, he does have some traits that fit our offense.

That said, I'm extremely wary of Florida QBs.

Herbert also showed some other elite traits like ball placement in college. I think the good drastically outweighed the bad and I know at the time you disagreed.

In terms of physical traits, I agree. My hesitation had nothing to do with that. My hesitation came from the reality that the most common bust is the guy with all the physical tools but none of the intangibles.

I was a Burrow hater/doubter.  Burrow has been great IMO given his situation.  I think he looks the best of the rookie class.   Wouldn't put him behind Herbert.  Tua doesn't have the reps to be ahead IMO.   But Tua has looked good.

I am a little biased because I just don't see some of the elite traits that some do. I also have only seen like two of his games this year, so I don't have a full picture. I'll give him a look moving forward and see if my initial take on him is accurate or not. I've seen a lot of Herbert and I really do like him a lot.

Pass. Reminds me of teddy tbh.

and whoever says Lance can’t read the field or go through progressions is wrong.

it’s Lance/Wilson for me if we go QB. Lance is a crazy competitor. He gets pissed if they don’t score 60 points a game. He’s extremely hard on himself and his mechanics are that of a 3 year starter. He needs more work but it would be the perfect situation for him with teddy. Wilson’s shoulder surgery gives me pause but he looks really damn good too. I’d be thrilled with either.

I don't like that he is a low tier athlete. That won't work well for a franchise that has never valued offensive line play.

That's the thing about intangibles, sometimes they are hard to get a read on. Mayfield was supposedly a high intangibles guy but that hasn't been a success. Brady's intangibles were sky high but no one recognized them.

Would like to hear @Varking opinion on Trask.  He tracks prospects and is a Florida fan so he would probably have good info on him.

Trask was JAG last year but making some progress it appears.  Top 10 pick though?  Dunno.

When he was putting up numbers to start, he was skeptical. Might now be now, but after the first few weeks in the SEC he was.

I love Kyle Trask because he is a Gator, a great story, and he is performing in college like an elite QB. However, the stuff that people have been saying are of some concern.
* Kyle Trask does not have elite arm strength. He does not possess even above average running ability. He is slow.

However, he *does* take plenty of shots down field and he can complete every throw you want made in the NFL. He is what we wanted Teddy Bridgewater to be. He is accurate, he spreads the ball around so you don’t know who he is going to and given any amount of time he does try to air it out.

With Kyle Pitts out they thought we would see a drop off but he hasn’t missed a beat. His worst game this year is 290 yards and 4 TDs. He also regularly comes out of games for the running QB to kill out drives. His numbers would be even crazier if he played through those drives.

Burrow could move better, Tua was more accurate, but if you believed in these two it’s hard to not believe Trask could be the next SEC QB to perform well at an NFL level. He is outpacing both of them in yards and touchdowns. He should be the front runner for the Heisman right now. Burrow had 8 of 15 games with 300 yards passing and 4+ TDs. Trask is already at 5. Trask has only had 1 game this year under 70% completions.

He would be a perfect guy to learn under Teddy but where we are projected to pick between 5-15 I would hate taking him. If he fell to the second round and we had pick number 5 in that round I’d go for him. I would not trade back into the first to take him. Is it a knock that he would come across as a better scoring Teddy? Not really because if Teddy finished drives we would love him. But, if you are going for a QB in round 1 early, to me it’s got to be for elite talent and production in Lawrence or Fields. You jumble any of the other projected first or second round QBs and pick one out of a hat and have a bunch of questions about competition, consistency, etc. Trask doesn’t have a great run game, his line isn’t great and his best WR moved on to the NFL. Even this year his team gets covid, his all world TE misses 3 quarters one game, misses another full game, leaves a Georgia game early due to targeting hit concussion and all Trask has done is 4+ touchdowns every week.

Ive said it in other threads but every week I point out I’m not used to great QB play in Florida and I keep waiting for the world to come crashing down in Gator land but every weeks he actually looks more confident and consistent with every throw. At this point he has convinced me he is a late first or early second as long as teams don’t reach.
