Slye or Butker

I was so upset we chose Gano over Butker. To make matters worse we put him on the practice squad and KC stole him.

Gano goes down and Slye comes in and we have our kicker for years to come.

I know two weeks ago he missed the 67 yarder but that 56 yarder yesterday could have gone 65.

If you had your choice would you take Butker or Slye?

I'd stick with Slye.   I swear this kid has the leg to hit 70.

But I hate playing this woulda coulda shoulda game because a healthy Gano was the safer option then an unproven rookie. The fact that he got injured and they just happened to swipe Butker was just plain bad luck.

True but we were lucky to get Slye.

Slye is two years behind Butker so he has room to improve.

Butker is the best kicker in the NFL. Slye isn’t as bad as what fans are crying about.

Butker has been pretty mediocre at best this year.  He's second worst at XP percentage and in the bottom half on FG percentage.  Unlike Slye, his FG percentage hasn't been negatively skewed by asking him to kick NFL record long FGs every other week.  His misses have been from the 40-49 yard range.  He had that one incredible game this year with the three 50+ yard FGs, but other than that, meh.

Geez, when are we going to quit whining over Butker?

No one is whining over Butker.  It was a comparison.  I like Slye and very happy we have him.  The dude has a cannon for a leg and somewhere in time he is going to set the record.  He missed that 67 yarder by a foot and IMO didn't get a solid hit on the ball.

He's also built like a linebacker.  The guy must be a workout warrior.  Did you hear the commentators talking about his cannons.

Butker and its not even close. There isn't a measure by which Slye is better.

I can't agree with that last part.  I think Slye has unique power.  Granted kicker is not usually a focal point, but I don't ever remember a cannon like this.  Joey gives you hope, where with other kickers there would be none.  Gift and a curse, but it is kinda fun isn't it?

After the departure of Luke and TD, my girlfriend has all but lost interest in our team.  The only time she cares is when Joey is up to bat, and she REALLY wants him to break that record.  Still on team Joey, albeit still forever salty about Butker.

You are misremembering.

    • We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy
    • similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.
    • So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
