If Wilson went #2, I kinda think there'll be someone (maybe several teams) trying to trade up and grab Fields.

If Fields goes #2 I think there will be someone trying to trade up for Wilson.

This is a really good QB class (on paper) and there are a lot of teams that need QBs, unless you are picking in the top 4 it will be hard to be patient.

If the Jets hire the correct coach and GM the entire narrative changes.  That along with huge amounts of cap space and biggest market in the country it wouldn't take much for him to start liking the Jets.

They are expected to have almost $81m in cap space.

NFL Salary Cap Space | Over The Cap

People need to realize that if there is a reduced salary cap next year, then it will definitely be a buyers market for teams.  A lot of teams are going to have to shed salaries and therefore there are going to be some good players taking some reduced salaries.  $10m next offseason would possible get you the same production as $15m last season.

Just another reason we might end up regretting some of our spending last offseason.

With the right leadership the Jets could be a very quick turnaround.

Who would be the right coach? They’ve just been a crap fest for so long and don’t seem to make good hires so maybe the problem is above the coach/GM. Would you trust that they hire the right leadership?

I also regret all spending this off-season. We could have been one of the huge cap teams and made it easy to extend our own and have room for blockbuster FAs in a year or two. We’ve wasted almost $100M in cap space to rollover/extend. Just this past off-season.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU*
The first curveball of this mock draft. In October, I wrote how Wilson had put himself in the conversation to be the second quarterback drafted and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him selected this high. With his natural accuracy and ability to execute off-platform, Wilson’s play translates very well to the next level.

LMFAO. how did that work out with Blaine Gabbert?

Over in Detroit, some people are urging the Lions to go for a "big name" coach.

I could see going for somebody established. Lord knows choosing young coaches hasn't worked out for them (they're not very good at identifying talent).

I'm starting to like Wilson better than Fields, but there's something bugging me about him.

Some of the talk about Wilson is that while he has the right skill set, they're not sure how well he'll physically hold up in the NFL

That's basically the same read people had on Bridgewater when he was up for the Draft.

That...scares me.

I do like Wilson a lot. I dunno about more than Fields, probably on the same level. There are definitely some things Wilson does better, looks more polished overall, but Fields seems to have a higher ceiling. I don’t see the Bridgewater comparison at all. Unless Wilson has a bad history of injuries. Besides, Wilson doesn’t seem to have Bridgewater’s main flaws at all, so I’m good with him.

If you are actually going to say Lawrence isn't an amazing prospect then I have to take everything with a grain of salt. He's at the top of every scouting list and if you've watched him, you've seen him make every kind of throw and have solid mobility.

Also, do you actually think every QB taken high is bad and all good QBs are taken later? In the top 11, we have Elway, Aikman, Manning (both), Newton, Luck, Watson, Mahomes, Roethlisberger, Young, Plunkett, Bradshaw as well as "good" QBs like Ryan, Simms, Bledsoe, Palmer, Vick, McNair, Rivers and Stafford and heck even young guys who haven't played long like Burrow, Herbert, Murray, Allen and Goff.

I didn't even list all the other 1st round QBs. We can go round and round on this, but there is absolutely no doubt that taking a QB in the first round (and a couple picks into the 2nd) gives you a much better shot at getting to and/or winning a SB. There aren't that many good QBs taken in later rounds. Wilson, Montana and Brady come once a decade. Good luck finding a franchise QB in later rounds.

Please don't be so literal, it's painful.

Lawrence is obviously a great prospect - but he's also playing in a gimmick offence with an incredible supporting staff. He's not asked to carry the team or make difficult throws. Yes, he has the arm to make them, but it's not the staple of the offence.

He projects to the #1 pick because he's got the size, athleticism, arm and pedigree (1 loss in College?) - but when you strip back the layers he's not quite as can't miss as people make out.

Wilson is probably better suited to play in the NFL right now. Fields may take a little time to develop, but potentially has a higher upside if he does.

With that said, what scares me about Wilson is that some of the physical questions surrounding him are the same ones that surrounded Bridgewater his senior year.

Where do you have Lance at this point?

Also explain to these people what you don't like about Fields, so many just see the stat sheet and the measurables and automatically think he is one of the top 2 prospects.

There are not a lot of holes in Field's game man honestly, he is an elite QB prospect. Wilson/Lance/Fields are about as close as you can get as far as prospective talent. The only dings I really have with Fields is he does seem to get lost sometimes if the pocket breaks down (very similar to Haskins in that regard) but he does have his elite athleticism to surpass the handicap. Sometimes his balls are a little high or behind, which isn't a problem at this level, but something he will need to address on the next level. This class is about as good as it gets as far as QBs.

Though the more I watch the NDSU v CA game, the more I become concerned about Lance. His release is longer (his elbow dips down by his waist a lot) than you would like and it shows up consistently in that game. His positive tape is just so great though.

Thanks Verge! This is an excellent year to have a strong QB class.
