Does a game like tonight's change your opinion on trading up for Lawrence

I would do 1st and 2nd this year, plus 1st next year in heartbeat, but that is nowhere close to what it would take.

You have to remember it wouldn't only be us trying to trade up, there are probably 10 teams who would give up alot for him.

The Jags would probably give a better deal than that and the Jets would only have to go back one spot.

3 1st and 3 2nds is probably a good starting point, and I doubt that would even get it done.

Unless Lawrence pulls a Eli Manning and tells the Jets he only wants to play for the Panthers. That would change the cost

Nothing would compel me to trade up for Lawrence, considering what the asking price would be.

Our record, coaching staff and financial situation are all in retooling mode and draft capital is too important. We're able to strike in the NFCS while everyone else is trending downward. GB/SEA/NO/LAR/TB are all going to hit the pooper due to financial constraints and age very, very soon.

Lawrence is the real deal, but look in Cincy at Burrow's severe injury into his rookie year. They're able to draft Sewell in this upcoming draft to protect him....imagine if they didn't have first rounders for the next couple of years.

Hard pass.

Maybe. That might also be a risk they're not willing to take.

It's also worth pointing out that their draft position is a lot more locked in right now than ours is.

I think if we offered them our first and second, the reward would be well worth the risk.  Multiple first and second round picks is how you build great teams.

I am not saying we should or would do it.  Just that its more likely than us trading up with the Jets.

I think our chances of getting the number one pick away from the Jets are roughly equivalent to Tommy Wiseau's chances of winning an Academy Award.

I swear the #4 can be BETTER than the #1..... if you factor in draft- 3 more 1s, couple 2s and few 4-6s......better hope hernaiy can find a entire OL form undrafted free agents. Its like you want the panthers to fail.

I look at the top QBs like this:  They are all dangerously risky after Lawrence.  So trade back and take a few picks to build around a Trask or Mac Jones.  Imagine if we drafted a top LT (Leatherwood, Cosmi, etc.  and moved up to grab Jones or Trask at the end of the first round?  The fourth overall pick would bring enough value to do that.  So now you look at the QB at #4 vs. Jones or Trask/Cosmi or Leatherwood later.

We could then add a free agent G and draft a TE early---this offense would be scary-in 2021--with Anderson, Moore, a good TE, a good OL--CMC---re-sign Moton--what?

Why would he tell them he only wants to play for the Panthers?

First of all, won't happen, but even if it did they would probably still trade the pick to whoever gave a better deal and call his bluff.

I was just using Eli as an example, it has happened before. I mean it is known Trevor loves Clemson, and could use a return as leverage. His love for Clemson and Dabo, knowing Joe Brady, and seeing the offensive talent in Carolina is enough reason. When both teams are at home, Trevor could catch Tiger games on Saturdays, Dabo could catch Trevor games in Sundays, a 2 hour commute.

Very very unlikely, but it has happened in 2004

Can anyone think of a trade in the history of the NFL where a team traded away a boatload of picks for a single player and it worked out for them? I think trading away that much draft capital just pretty much dooms your team no matter how good the player you trade for is.

2 recent examples... Chiefs traded a lot to get Mahomes, way bigger risk than for Lawrence in terms of how good of prospects they are coming out of college. Also, Rams traded a ton to get Goff... Been one of the most successful teams since, despite Goff not being even close to elite.

    • Everyone knew the catch was secured and didn't move. That was clear to the entire audience. The only ones who thought it wasn't a catch were in the NYC home office. They knew they'd just offer an apology the next day.
    • NEVER FORGET!!!!   Canales was on no one's radar. Tepper couldn't get anyone to come here. He was all in on Ben Johnson. Nobody wants to work with Tepper, however Canales tenure may prove important for the next guy. This guy still has no idea what he's doing.
    • The 4th down play was poor execution by Chuba. He didn't want to get physical like Rico and cut North South to lean on his blocks from Tremble and Ekwonu for half a yard. Also, the 3rd down play before that Bryce audibled out to a QB run and almost got the 1st down was on Chuba for not knowing the play call leading to poor execution. You can see Chuba's confusion when Bryce had to realign him. Then Chuba thought he was getting the handoff and was slow to develop his double team on the DE with Tremble. Then Chuba hesitated on pushing the block and just ran to the sideline making Bryce have to loop around him. This pulled the DE away from Tremble forcing Chuba to chip on the DE late and leaving the safety as a free defender. Chuba was suppose to double down on the DE to let Tremble peel off to the safety. This allows Bryce to set up his run to the inside or outside after the safety commits. You can also see Tremble walk over to talk to Chuba after the play and Chuba shrugs which tells me he didn't know what to do. The audible would have worked on 3rd and the dive would have worked on 4th. The plays were good calls and drawn up well. The question is why was Chuba unprepared for those plays in two critical back to back plays? I like Chuba as a 1st down RB and passing downs, but I have always seen him lacking the power and vision to be a short yardage power back. Chuba didn't come prepared for the Saints game or he was thrown into a position at the 3 spot that he was never prepared for.
