I don't follow college football much at all but will probably tune into this one to see Wilson. How good is UCF? Are they better competition than most of the other teams that he's been going up against?

Not better than Coastal. But, better than everyone else. Still, their defense leaves a lot to be desired.

They give up over 30 points a game. BYU gives up like 15 points a game and BYU is one of the least sacked teams in the country.

I will be watching the game and want to tape it so i can go back and break down Zach Wilsons various plays. I am impressed with him so far and want to see how he holds up tonight playing against a very good team.

They are a good team in college football overall but they aren’t good defensively. It’s the perfect storm for Wilson. He’s one of the least sacked QBs in the country and the UCF defense gives up over 30 points a game. This is the type of game Trey Lance was hoping to play in during his showcase game.

Good write up on Wilson.

Quote

ESI SITAKE WAS dumbstruck. Wilson had just pulled off an incredible play and was breaking it down for his receivers coach on the sideline.

"This kid's different," he thought. "He gets it."

On its face, it was another Mahomes-esque improvisational play. Wilson took the snap at midfield, was flushed out to his right and crow-hopped forward, throwing the ball awkwardly off his front foot just as a defender crashed into him. The ball sailed down the far side of the field and into the waiting hands of Dax Milne, who caught it at the goal line for a touchdown.

But while the TV camera focused on Milne taking a celebratory bow, it missed the grin on Wilson's face as he went back to the sideline, shouting, "I knew it! I knew it!"

He had intentionally flushed himself out of the pocket. As he lined up before the snap, he'd read that Texas State was in a Tampa 2 defense, meaning the two safeties would be guarding the sidelines and therefore making a deep pass difficult.

There was a hole in the defense he'd noticed during film study earlier in the week. He'd seen how SMU's quarterback had scrambled to his right against Texas State and how the safety on the far side had cheated toward him, away from the sideline and toward the middle of the field.

Wilson said he didn't blame the safety for doing that. It's a tiny window he was leaving open, and it's about 60 yards when you account for the angle of the pass.

Not many quarterbacks can make that throw, let alone set it up. But that's exactly what Wilson did when he scrambled, moved the safeties with his eyes and launched the ball with enough velocity that it didn't give the secondary time to adjust.

What looks like improv actually isn't. Wilson isn't playing backyard football and making up stuff on the fly. He's setting up defenses and executing plays he prepared for.

He's part of the new generation of quarterbacks who practice throwing off-platform and from awkward arm angles the same way Stephen Curry practices shooting from half court.

I remember when those crazy one handed catches were absolutely insane to see and rare. Now WR's, TE's and even DB's constantly drill on making those catches. You want a guy that is ahead of the curve and practices this crazy poo.

I like it.

Really looking forward to this. However, I think a stellar game from Wilson puts him at #2 QB on most draft boards. Wilson is my choice at QB behind Lawrence. I truly think he would be the better choice for us over Fields, who in my mind is sliding down to the lower half of the top 10.

Matt Miller put him at 11 in his BR Mock.

Watched him a lot. Had to, my fiancé is a BYU alum

he doesn’t have much in the way of receivers.  Had the top running back out a couple of weeks

given time, he can make all throws   He isn’t stupid in decisions

1. he just doesn’t handle pressure well.
2. BYU’s schedule very weak...it’s not like it used be when they were in a stronger conf playing Colorado, Colorado state.   etc

3  his frame is a lot like Bridgewaters
he doesn’t have the same scrambling as the running qb

we shall see

I'm not sold on him at all, so I will definitely be watching. He even looked pedestrian at times in his last game vs San Diego State.

He has a great offensive line to protect him, that is a red flag for me when he potentially may go to a team with poor protection and the guys getting to him are much bigger.

He still looks small on the field, like Teddy. Two throwing arm surgeries...idk man.

I won't even get into the Mormon thing, but yeah...

In regards to Fields? If so, i can definitely see why. He has talent and truly i see a lot of Cam when i watch him play. However, I've seen that movie before. I want something new. Fields takes way too long to let go of the ball which scares me away.

    • I've been hearing all about this "winning culture" for years while watching us piss away top shelf draft position with meaningless late season wins when we're already eliminated from the playoffs but being assured this is building "winning culture" just to inevitably suck again next year. With that said, I'll always take a playoff berth. Just make the dance and you have a chance to make some noise. But spare me the "winning culture" bullshit.
    • Winning culture trumps ALL.    Here’s my way to long take:  Last season this team started out breaking the sports books and being the lead pipe lock of the week. They finished by being a tough out for both SB teams.  I don’t think they’ll pick up right where they left off, but for the first time in years they’re on the legitimate upswing. Honest to God NFL talent has been infused.  Offense is already going to be good for 2-3 more 3rd down conversions (I don’t think anyone will argue that) a game over last year so I’ll go (very optimistically) 5-6 more points better than last year’s team. ADDED: A legit backup RB and a money WR who catches everything, along with 2 promising rooks. No significant losses (sorry Miles). KEYS: Can Dave bob and weave play calling if things aren’t working? Does protection continue to hold for Bryce. Did this team pick up dudes who know how to find the end zone or will the struggle of 3rd and goal continue.  Defense. If they can force even 2 (hopefully 3) more stops a game on third down (not asking a lot, hopefully more), that’s good for -4 (optimistic) points for opposing teams.  ADDED: legit run stuffers. Legit (appearing) edge guys. LOST: Clowney. Question: With legit 3-4 talent can Evero finally show what we have been VERY patiently waiting on? To me, EVERYTHING on defense hinges on Evero. Everything. Every position group was upgraded (still not good enough, but certainly improved).  Losing Brown early and Luvu… completely and utterly devastated the run defense. Luvu put up one of the best seasons at LB this team has ever seen. His under appreciation by some fans was criminal. He alone was our 3 down stop machine. Brown was pretty much it up front. Those 2 held RBs in check long enough for safety help to arrive.  Coaching: Halftime adjustments and no prevent defense. In a nutshell, that’s pretty much it. No cutesy offense to show off WRs/Bryce when it’s not working. Use your sledgehammers, Dave.  There is finally veteran leadership and legit NFL talent. It’s going in the right direction (I couldn’t have been more wrong last offseason) to build a winning culture, but teams have to learn how to win, especially the games where nothing is going right (this team has NEVER been able to do that). They will still lose more close games than they win, and that alone is where it all hinges.
    • With his current level of play I'm quite content to not activate his 5th year option and let him walk away for free after year 4.
