Curtis or Robbie?

I personally never wanted Anderson because I saw what Samuel could be. The huddle bagged on him for years now that he has developed hes everyone's favorite wr.

He’s not though...he’s a lot of people’s third favorite WR lol, hence this thread. You are even trying to convince multiple people that he’s better than Anderson in this very thread.

I can’t deny the great catch percentage but when I watch him in games, it still looks like he body-catches and bobbles balls more than I’d like from a receiver. Samuel is definitely a better weapon, but Anderson is still the superior receiver in my eyes and it’s not particularly close. I agree with those that are saying Samuel’s production has been inflated by CMC’s absence. Once CMC returns, I think this offense will benefit more from a traditional 1B receiver than a gadget player who is an above average receiver and running back but doesn’t particularly excel at either.

Think you need to reread the thread because most say they would prefer samuel. Robby is a good player and if I had him here first before samuel then maybe. But samuel is more dynamic, plays more positions and can do everything Anderson can do. He's better after the catch as well. Not sure what you debating.

Are people actually taking about cutting Robby to sign Curtis? We save $8 million by cutting Robby but you're going to have a hard time getting a caliber of player as good as Robby for $8 million. We assume Curtis is going for $10+ himself. Personally I wouldn't think of cutting Robby. He's a great deal at his current contract.

The question you ask yourself isn't either/or. It's whether it's worth paying all 3 next year. Samuel I think is thriving in his WR 3/gadget role but I don't think he's an ideal wr 2. He struggled there all of last year and I don't think that's all on scheme. He doesn't excel when he's out wide with a team's top corner on him. He's ideal in the slot getting into space or with the ball in his hands in the backfield. I'd ideally love to keep him but a) how much is he really worth in his role and b) how much can a healthy CMC do an even better job of that? If your trust B, you can easily spend 20% on what Samuel might cost to sign a rb to put in the backfield and have McCaffrey perform Samuel's role 10 plays per game. Personally I'd favor the latter, coup the comp pick and shore up bigger weaknesses with that money.

If they aren't, Anderson is the better move. He put up numbers despite his noodle arm QB who rarely went deep. It took CMC snaps for Curtis to produce.

This is a good point. IMO, Samuel took a lot of the receptions that would have gone to CMC. That being said...he's shown good hands and has been reliable. Hate to see him is a Buffalo uniform next season.

There are a lot of dudes in this draft class that can be had in the 2nd and 3rd round that could replace Curtis for a fraction of the cost. Curtis at this point might be a luxury we can’t afford given our other needs.

I don't think it would be that easy.  Samuel as been the clutch receiver for us this year.  Getting someone who can perform at the level he has with a third round pick this upcoming year would require some luck.  And we have a number of areas to improve, so the second round pick we will have will be valuable and we may want to use it to get a CB or O LIne player.

I am not saying we should sign him, it will depend on how much he wants.  And we definitely shouldn't cut Robbie to sign Samuel.  But replacing Curtis also comes with a cost.

Could creative restructuring of existing contracts (Bridgewater, KK?) solve the problem, and allow us to keep Samuel and Moton?

I believe so. Did an offseason thread on the Football Life board where the goal was just that.

    • Yeah this needs to happen ASAP. I don’t care if the price is lower. These Vikings fans on Twitter are absolutely insufferable. Acting like they have been world beaters for the last 60 years and thinking Carolina should just hand him over for nothing. We’ve had 7 or so tough seasons in a row and we have still been to two superbowls since they have and won more playoff games since 1995.    I hope Dan sends him to Detroit for a 2040 7th rounder and eats half the contract. Even Sheena is replying to them.
    • I hope your cath went well
    • So did the Panthers initiate this by making him "available for the right price" or was this something Thielen himself pushed for? I also never saw this quote he made about JJ McCarthy back in June. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/panthers-adam-thielen-both-asked-182711572.html Thielen believes McCarthy is built for big moments and will eventually show the world the skillset that won the Michigan Wolverines a national championship in 2023/2024. He even said McCarthy could be the “face of the league.” “I have high expectations for him. I've been able to be around a little bit through some of the time last summer... back in Minnesota, and I think he has the ability to be one of the great quarterbacks this season and the face of this league at some point. You know, I think he's got every tool and intangible that you can have,” Thielen said. “Obviously, it's a difficult league and it's not gonna just be easy, but I think he has the ability to handle adversity to be able to be big in big moments, as you saw when he was in college. I think he's got a great support staff around him, whether it be the coaches or the trainers.” Sounds like he's had one foot out the door for some time now.
