Could the top of the draft be flipped?

The vast majority of experts and analysts say no.

But there's this...

Meyer did not coach Justin Fields at Ohio State, but Meyer did recruit him while there. Also of note, Meyer once told Colin Cowherd that he'd take special note of Fields leadership ability "if he were running an NFL franchise".

If the Jags hire Meyer, things might just get interesting.

Doesn't have much bearing on us at #9 or possibly much lower if we beat the Saints tomorrow

There's going to be an early run on QBs with a slew of teams all trying to trade up for one of the top 3 QBs . We could've guaranteed had one of them if we lost the last couple games , but in the most panther way possible we win when were already out of the playoffs and it doesn't even do anything but fug up draft position.

You mentioned this possibility in the game thread last night. I told you that Meyer is Trent Blake's main guy.

If Meyer becomes the Jags next HC, I fully expect him to choose Fields!

I was born in Jacksonville. I’d look at snagging a Fields jersey.

I can’t see it. Lawrence is just so much better than Fields as a prospect. They’d have to get a haul in a trade down but not too far that they can’t still get Fields, and those types of trades are extremely difficult to pull off.

I don't see Lawrence as so much of a better prospect. The only thing he has on Fields is sheer production, but when you look at averages, they're nearly the same guy. Mind you, that I'm not one to drink the Kool-Aid about "the next big thing", but I just don't understand how Lawrence is so much better than many good prospects that come out. Pressure his ass, and he starts to look just as normal as any pro QB.

Lawrence’s intangibles are elite and are about as good as one can possibly get for an NFL QB. The production combined with that make him the safest prospect in this class by far as well as the one with the biggest chance to reach his ceiling which is as high or higher than anyone else in this class too. He makes all the reads, all the throws, navigates the pocket, has the size, the arm strength, and even the mobility too.

I’m a big fan of Fields too and would love to nab him or Wilson or Lance. And by no means am I saying Lawrence will definitely be better than all the others, just that as a prospect he is hands down the best in this class, it’s not even close either.

Yeah, but he also called Trevor Lawrence, "the best college football QB ever" (he did walk this back to the "best QB in college football")

Quote

FOX Sports analyst Urban Meyer had some high praise for Clemson quarterback and Heisman Trophy favorite, Trevor Lawrence.

Discussing the possibility of another Alabama-Clemson matchup in the College Football Playoff, Meyer broke down why it all hinges on the sophomore.

“It’s very hard to repeat. Once you win it, everything changes.

“I think Dabo Swinney, as long as he can keep that team together…the quarterback is the best quarterback in college football, ever. But what about the rest of the team? Are they going to stay focused and keep swinging like they did last year?”

Taking Fields over Lawrence would take some giant iron balls.  And I think ultimately it would put too much pressure on Fields having that dangling over his head.

Yeah, that's the thing. He's been dubbed a future #1 overall pick for years. If you take him and he's good but Fields ends up better no one is going to blame you. If you take Fields and he busts while Lawrence becomes great, you're probably gonna be on an AM radio show with Marty Hurney soon.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
