Cost to trade up

With all of the talk about drafting a QB I'm seeing a lot of wishful thinking about the cost of moving up in the draft.

To go from 8 to 3 is about an 800 point jump based off of the trade value chart.

2021 NFL Trade Value Chart (drafttek.com)

Our 2nd this year is worth 510.

Future year picks are usually valued as a round later.  So a mid round 1st rounder next year would be worth around 420 (equal to pick 16 in the second round).

510+420 = 930 but usually there is a premium on QBs.

Personally I think this years 2nd and next years 1st would be the starting point for a trade and honestly I think there will be several teams looking to trade up so I expect it to even cost more.

I'm not saying we should or shouldn't but if we think we need to jump Atlanta to get QB3 its not going to be cheap.

What if we like Lance but are worried about him making it to 8?  Going to 6 is only about a 200 point jump which would be a 3rd rounder.

In theory you could possibly draft 2 QBs, Lance and whoever you draft with your 1st next year, or 1 QB (Fields or Wilson) this year .

Normally I'm not a huge fan of trading up for non-QBs, but for a QB I would definitely entertain the idea.

so basically, this is what beating Washington cost us.

New York jumped from 6 to 3 for the price of three twos

I don't personally think we need to even get that high-5 should suffice and would cost a single 2nd according to the chart, though I may complementent that with a later pick just to seal the deal

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

personally, if whomever is hired as GM can agree with rhule that either lance or Wilson is a franchise qb, there is absolutely no reason we shouldn’t trade this years second and next years first to move up. It would be an absolute no brainer.

I think it would have to be Miami at 3, unless you give up even more to tge Jets at 2.  The Eagles at 6 would be risky.

Atlanta at 4 will not trade with us, we wouldn't even wanting them knowing our intentions, and their price would be insane if they did listen.

Cincinnati at 5 is almost pointless to even call. Their owner just does not trade picks. I believe that he is on record making strong statements about picks being traded.

This is true. They won't even trade aging vets who have good value to stock up on assets for their young franchise QB. Shame.

Probably way too early to tell what is going to happen.  Guaranteed that draft boards in the NFL have not even been assembled yet.

Only on draft sites that we all follow.  Guys will go up and down draft boards starting next month, and every week after.  The stuff about 4 QB's in 4 picks is just someones draft site wanting to be different

We will have a sense of what other teams intend to do by the draft, if Carson Wentz is still in Philly by that point, it's likely things there have simmered

As for Cincy, they are notorious for not moving up. Moving down isn't outside their comfort zone.

I think Rhule will be aggressive for his QB, he knows he can't win without a franchise QB and he doesn't have until years 3 or 4 of his era to draft a rookie QB, look at Lynn this year. Rhule has not been afraid to make the gutsy call evidenced by multiple 4th down calls and onside kicks this year. You can't play scared or conservative if you want to try and win in this league. Go big or go home boys!

    • Well, the whole rationale used  for the high IQ point guard is it would allow us to spend our resources elsewhere….instead it’s all our first rounders ever since to support the bad pick.  Reality is our front office is just bad.  If you wanted Bryce Young you were going to need to do something unique and special for him.  Instead we just insert a QB with traditional tools into old NFL concepts that pair with traditional talent and our pass game is whack
    • Good to see some other folks are speaking the same language on this. It's simple common sense. But it seems like there's a disconnect due to the misplaced value the team has put on Thielen because he was the only vaguely good veteran WR willing to sign with the Panthers after we traded away DJ Moore. That time has come and gone. We have two first round WR's on the roster now.
    • Yeah I’m turning this into a Bryce can’t play QB thread. Just stating that offense was a poo show two years ago. No QB is succeeding in that, much less a rookie. I feel like it’s become a common debate strategy on here to just jump down the rabbit hole of saying he is just bad in so many ways when any certain point gets countered. If that doesn’t work we can deflect to how poorly this team has been ran. In regards to the actual point we are debating, the OL was struggling, half of the skill players aren’t on a roster, Mingo has done nothing with his new team and the staff are either not coaching or on their 3rd team in 3 years, aside from McCown (I liked McCown too). Honestly about as bad as it gets. No need to try to state how good of an offense it was billed it because that has been proven false at this point.
