Panthers "narrowing the field"

wonder if the "move on from Teddy" means cutting him before the season?  I've been thinking we draft a QB and let him grow behind Teddy for a year, then cut Teddy.  Cutting him immediately does reduce our dead money by about 5 mill this year (post June 1) which goes to cap space.

Kind of scary to think about Trey Lance starting the first game.  Should be interesting.

If they are talking about moving on from him, I have to assume that means him not being on the roster. I will say that Rhule didn't sound very confident on the Teddy subject in his final game presser. It definitely stood out when he said he would need to really crush the offseason.

Agreed, didn't sound like there was much faith in him moving forward.

I'm all for admitting mistakes, taking it on the chin, and moving on...at some point the Panthers have to learn to operate a little more cutthroat.

What makes more financial sense with Teddy?

- Keeping him as the starter/mentor to Lance/Fields/Wilson and then cutting after '21 season

- Cutting him prior to '21 season

My biggest concern is dead money that we have accumulated during the Hurney days that lingered over us like a circling vulture year in and year out. Would letting Teddy use his character/attitude/knowledge as a mentor be worth one more year to save the long-term cap ramifications?

I ask as not delving any deeper as to how the hit is spread out over the next two seasons if he is a post 6/1 cut vs. post 2021 season.

Keeping him for a year.

Everyone needs to be prepared for Teddy to be the starter next year, even if we draft someone.

Best case Teddy plays well enough that someone is willing to trade for him the following season.

It’s such a bad comparison in my opinion. McVay had two more years at OC and 5 more NFL years. I think Brady’s going to have a really rough transition. McVay had so much more experience even though he was young as well. He’d likely been through multiple drafts and off seasons. Brady’s main off-season in his one year as OC was the CV-19 blow up year.

Since he’s going to the Falcons he can fug off and it could be fun watching him flounder. I wonder if Rhule and Co have cut him off from the draft prep.

He’s never held a job for more than a season anywhere and people want to make him a head coach.

100%. I thought that was the general plan that we envisioned.

Draft young prospect to sit the year. Learn on the job, with minimal expectations of playing, build confidence in system.

2022 - Start youngster, move on from Teddy.
