A late round sleeper QB to watch out for...

So looking back at this week's news that the 49ers move up to the #3 pick makes it pretty apparent that they may be looking at a QB and with that said, it could potentially put a wrinkle in our plans to draft a qb in this year's draft.... Or is it?

Let me be clear, this is not Marty Burney's draft... This is Fitty's place to shine and he has been in the war room when the Seahawks drafted a guy that many thought would probably never amount to anything outside of being possibly a #2 QB but he proved doubters wrong and later won a Superbowl title with the help of him and that guy is no other than..... Russell Wilson...

But surely Fitty Magic can't strike buried gold again, right? Surely not... Right? But wait... I envision a similar situation happening here...

Enter Davis Mills, QB, Stanford

Now I know what you are probably thinking, "you are f'n crazy if you think this guy will amount to any thing more than a back-up QB"

But I watch some game tape (yes, game tape, not highlights) and this guy has a good bit of moxie about him. His game is very similar to another recent Stanford QB by the name of Andrew Luck with a hint of Peyton Manning (and no, I am not saying he will be that level good but just that a similar style of game.)

Pros: Great in the pocket, has a bullet of a arm, prototyoical size, some mobility (can move around in pocket to buy time)

Negatives: Tends to hold on to the ball, needs to add some weight, needs to be more accurate at times

Ladies and Gents... Davis Mills is my sleeper QB pick...

Now proceed to bash away...

You're a little late on this.  Mills has steadily been creeping up Big Boards since his Pro Day.  He'll be a mid-round pick, not late. He should be the next QB off the board after Trask now.  Yes, in front of Newman and Mond.

I wouldn't mind taking him in the 3rd ONLY if the following scenario occurs:  the "big 4" all have been drafted AND we draft a franchise LT in the first round to protect him.  I've watched some of his game tape.  Davis has the tools, but has battled injury and, like Lance, has few starts to his name.

If we draft him, *ducks for incoming* Teddy will be the starter this year.  Mills will have to sit a season, no question.

Mills is from the Atlanta area, and was the top ranked QB in his Senior class coming out of High School.

Was bitten by the injury bug which has allowed him to only play in 14 games, with only 11 starts. He has the talent to be very successful if he can stay healthy. Will need to sit behind and learn from veteran QB to start his career.

Isn’t exactly a hot take. He was the #1 qb in this class coming out of high school. Two knee injuries, a small body of work pushed him down.. but he can do it all.

    • Yeah, Bryce has to put that a little deeper. But XL can't allow the pick there. Gotta become the DB when you're undercut like that.
    • You see, I just don't subscribe to a cookie cutter type of philosophy when it comes to trades or team building. Every situation is different. Many may disagree, but I think that FOs that can't draft impact-players beyond the first round aren't really viable.  Just for argument's sake, because we all know this hypothetical trade is as realistic as the moon being made of cheese, Micah is a young dawg really just beginning his prime and is arguably the most valuable pass rusher in the league. He could realistically play at a high level for at least the next five to seven years. Parsons' current trajectory is Canton. That being said, he's not some old merc that fits the mold of "one piece away," he's a core piece to any defense for the better part of the next 10 years. Pass rushers of his caliber and age don't generally become available, so, sure, he'd help an elite team, but he's also a fit for a younger team that's building. I know that you don't agree, but it's all good. I respect your rationale.
    • Here's my not important take on this subject.  Who wouldn't want a pass rusher of his consistency?  I would absolutely love to have him on this defense.   Would I give up Brown in a trade for him.  Nope, I would never do that.  Interior linemen are way to important to be settling for whatever you can get at the position.   Would I trade 2 firsts,  plus fork out a big contract for him?   Without knowing if Young is for sure going to be our long term, franchise guy,  there is no way I'd be okay with letting go 2 firsts. As for the contract that he'd demand, I just dont get caught up with NFL contracts.  They have been out of control for decades.  So I really dont get upset over big contracts. It's just a fact of life in the NFL.  You HAVE to pay for talent.
