Who cares. We have one of the best pass rushers in the league,  and in case ya haven't noticed, the Panthers are trying to create more pressure. Without it, we won't win.

Would like to see him make it home with the sacks more, to be honest. Let's put him in the "good" rating, but he hasn't earned the "great" label yet. He's never going to be Julius Peppers, but he still can work himself up to the Charles Johnson level. 

Not meaning to downplay his potential, but he's still got a big ceiling above him and we need him to start reaching it. (He was still the best guy out there by far, but that defense last season was soft, weak and timid in most games.)

Don't be fooled by the sack stats. Burns has been an absolute game changer on the field for us and has nearly singlehandedly won us some games. He's definitely already great, better than CJ ever was at his peak. Peppers is a top 5-10 all time pass rusher so sure it's not necessarily likely he gets to that level (especially with longevity) but he absolutely has that potential.

Burns is already a much better football player than Johnson ever was.

Yeah, the pressure stats he generates are bananas. I think with some other pocket collapsing players, he might be a 15+ sack guy.

He just finished his second year. The fact he’s this productive already is scary.

Part of his lack of sacks could be that he doesn't have a Mike Rucker / Charles Johnson on the other side putting in strong reps.  You can't give a QB any "out", because if there is one, good QB's will find it and elude the sack even though you managed pressure.

That said, if Burns actually wants to get paid, he does in fact need the numbers.  For all that I think he's excellent, the league pays for stats.

No, I understand pressures are so very important to the overall game and he is getting that. Sacks, however, are the exclamation mark at the end of the sentence and can change the whole tenor of the contest. Sometimes it's just a fraction of a second that makes the difference, the great ones find that fraction of a second or they make the o-lineman give that fraction up themselves.

Good coaching can make that difference, refining technique. I think he can do it, I just wish we were seeing more right away.

And I do think there's a level with Johnson and Rucker that is still something he needs to work toward. Could he be the fourth face on our sack kings Mt. Rushmore with all-time greats Reggie White, Kevin Green and Julius Peppers? That's a mighty high bar, but Spider-Man climbs with the best of them, right?

Yep, but he's got to find that something extra to break through into greatness territory. Right now he's a factor in games, but he isn't something an entire offensive plan has to be built around.

Wasn't that part of the scheme in the secondary give up what's in front of you and nothing deep. Add in playing off and quick passes when Burns was almost home happened routinely. 

Secondary does a better job at pressing and some of those quick conversion turn into sacks. IMO it's not really a big deal the way he's being game planned for and still producing

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
