so we haven't picked up the option?

You can learn a lot about a person in just a couple of weeks. Like if the last team left him with any lingering traumas.

They may also look at negotiating an entire contract now while his resume` looks less promising, offering incentives rather than guarantees.

Will depend on:

1. How well Sam performs this year, 2. If Fields/Lance falls to us and he shows he's ready by next year.

We only have until the day after the draft to claim the option.  If we don't he's a free agent after the 2021 season.

Didnt know that info, thx. Still works for draft leverage i think. Really after the first round, they can extend him if thats the plan.

I don't see a reason to do so. If Darnold flies off the handle and becomes Mr. Franchise QB the team will have no problem opening their pocketbooks for him. In the more likely event he sucks a big fat twinkie, the team owes him nothing next year.

I kind of doubt we traded away a second round pick just for a one year tryout.

That'd be pretty dumb, honestly.

I would think having another failed QB with a 19M guarantee would be much dumber. Even if he goes Tannehill his first year wouldn’t be that much. What possible reason would a team guarantee that much to a QB in hopes he becomes something he’s never been before? Especially for the 2nd year in a row.

They can restructure the contract to spread the hit evenly.

Speculation has been that this is the plan.

In what way won’t they be paying the same amount?  How does this restructure work? Is it kicking money onto this year? Because I keep hearing this but not one person has explained how it works.

I think that's what they want to do.  Move some money forward into this year if they can get Teddy off the books.

    • I could be waaaaaaay off about Kon. I do fault myself into, to borrow a NFL phrase heavily "RAS" nerd on players, too much. There are PLENTY of athletic freak shows that are playing overseas(or Amazon delivery) cause they never figured out NBA ball. I can easily miss seeing the talent. Plus did he only have 2 dunks on the season??(is that for real??) I didn't watch over a few hours of duke, but not one point did I think "That Kon guy is a top 4 pick in the upcoming draft". IMO I still foresee Ball bringing the ball up, doing his weak isolation game and never even looking for Kon. That's his best trait according to everyone, shooting right? I do not see ball, bridges, miller or even williams making the extra pass to Kon for him to shoot a 3.  Then defense-wise, Im not ready to type the amount of questions I foresee in his ability for guarding NBA SGs or bench SFs for that matter. Not that NBA players care to defend, but still..... I just feel he's a bad fit for the current hornets, trades are taking place tho... Liam to me is a decent comp for Kon and he fell some, but was a 29 overall pick. Still around 13-21 was the good solid range for Liam and I thought the same for Kon. This is just a classic case of I need to see it. It add to this, Kon is like garlic. Ball is like sugar and Miller is like flour. Mix it together and chef Lee is not going to get me to eat that dish..... Honestly I don't know why Im this vocal about Kon. In past years I would be patience and not post and see what the kid has. The other side, insert classic white boy terms here- _____, ______, _______< etc >. Hornets do desperately need them. His crafty back door cuts, his willingness to stay a extra 2 hours to refine lees plays, keep playing with bruised limbs. I heard from many reports he's mentally tough and hornets by all gods need that. God they are such pussys.  I hope Im wrong and if so, I will give Kon his just props.
