Panthers pick up Moore’s 5th year

lots of speculation about not picking up Darnolds, there is still time to do it after the draft though. Next few day are going to be wild.

He already is a 1000 yard receiver . . . he'll be a consistent all pro with a good QB.

This is all part of the QB smokescreen. 

Tells the league "see? we are thinking about 5th year options but we didn't pick up Darnold's.  That's because we are gonna draft another QB"

Good for DJ. Whatever happens with qb I hope he is able to take the next step. It sucks to see talent squandered. Just get the man the ball.

Quentin Nelson just got his picked up.  Lots of good players still haven't had theirs picked up.

I read a lot of NFL teams were moving their feet slow on it because this is the 1st offseason where the 5th-year option, if you pick it up, will be guaranteed no matter what.  It used to be guaranteed only in the event of injury.  So I think behind the scenes we were probably trying to see if we could reach a long-term contract beforehand.

It wouldn't be shocking. Moore and Anderson both are currently only on one year deals. I doubt we pay them both long-term.

Wait? I was told both would be AFTER the draft because Darnold is the guy and pretty much guaranteed to get his 5th year...

I am not high on Darnold but I think DJ is gonna have a career year with him. Ideally we should be trying to lock him up long term.

I would still pick it up, regardless of whether we take Fields or not.  It sounds like we're making Darnold the starter regardless to start the season, and if we can rehabilitate his value and move him for close to the value we traded for him, I would prefer that.
