Tepper wanted Fields. Let his guys make the football decisions

They overachieved early last season and looked pretty darn good with little talent.

Now inject CMC, a marginally better QB maybe, and a much improved defense. This could be a winning season. That isn't far fetched.

I don't see any urgency to win. Last year Hurney got the blame, this year I don't have much rope. It wasn't the D that failed as the year went on. Feels like a repeat at this point. They need to really do well the next 3 picks.

LOL! What a dumb, impatient take! It’s their first year together.

Lol. I don't care. I'm not their boss. If they ignore massive larger needs then that's on them. Fact is we haven't done much winning yet under Tepper and Fritters is Rhules GM, doesn't matter how long he has been here, he gets filed under Rhule.

Hurney and Tepper’s urgency to win is what got us into this mess after year 1.

When Rhule took over everyone and their dog knew the first 2 years were going to be building years.

Yesterday’s pick of Horn was a fantastic sign that Rhule is finally being allowed to build his way. This is sadly kind of year 1 almost.

Tepper wanted Justin Fields for business reasons. Instant injection of excitement and jersey sales. Ticket and concession sales galore. Tepper.is a money guy, and Fields is where the money was.

Apparently, football reasons trump money reasons in this franchise. Having a true shutdown corner won't sell many jerseys or beers initially, but in the long run may contribute to a winning franchise.

Sources? Or you’re just speculating?

I don't know that I can blame the urgency on Tepper. You definitely get mixed signals. I honestly think Rhule has more of a "win now" mentality than maybe Tepper does.

I think it was the wrong decision to take Horns over Fields(or Slater). Very glad Tepper didn't meddle. VERY glad.

Now I can understand anyone who is upset that we didn’t take Fields if Fields was their guy. That I can get.

I’m not even going to lie, Horn was my guy and he is who I wanted but when Fields was (to my surprise) still on the board at 8... even I wanted to take a shot. And I love Horn.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
