I actually think a lot of people will think like this. If Fields is good, and Darnold is bad, It's going to be hard not to think "we could have had that guy". If Horn becomes a true, lock down corner, it'll definitely lessen the pain. i happen to think that horn will be a shut down corner AND Darnold will be significantly better that he was in NY. Like the article says, "Considering the talent around Darnold, he doesn’t even have to be that great."

To his credit, though, he has made some good decisions while on the run(aka running for his life).

But no one can make good decisions when he's running for his life ON *EVERY* PASSING DOWN.

Hopefully with this O-Line(which will still be eons better than the garbage he played behind) he'll be able to deliver passes from the pocket.

I guess i will approach it with hopeful optimism again as i did with Teddy last year yet all the while in the back of my mind doubting it will work out unfortunately. I hope it does but if I had to put money on it I would have to go based off the past seasons in NY and say we may see a little improvement but not enough to be a franchise QB. Damn I hope im wrong though.

There won't be any ghosts on the field in practice. We won't know if he's shell shocked until the real bullets start flying.

I've been thinking it's more akin to the Jets who got a really good DB in that draft (Jamal Adams) but passed on two franchise QBs.

But what's done is done. Rhule and Fitterer chose Darnold & Horn over Fields. We can only hope it was the right decision.

He is a four year NFL starter. Did he lose time to illness and injury? Sure, but that will be four offseasons, training camps, four years of film room, four years of development and training. If he didn't produce after this season, he isn't going to.

I hate building in excuses but a 4th year player should be 25-26 not 23. Its crazy how young he really is.  I believe Joe Burrow is older than Sam.  The cognitive development between 20-25 is substantial. He still has time to "get it".

Yeah, but that doesn't change the bust history. If he is an outlier it won't be his age, it will be because the Jets are that huge of a dumpster fire. 

I have heard the "just 23/24" thing plenty. He isn't the first 20 year old NFL player and he isn't even the youngest player ever drafted. There are more than one of those 19 or 20 year old rookies that didn't bust out their first three years.(Juju is one, as an example)

Like I said, after this season, it's boom or bust. Zero excuses left.

      Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
