I don’t disagree, but I think it’s a little more nuanced than that. I think they are willing to see if Darnold works out rather than draft their 4th choice QB with an incomplete O Line, and a defense that can’t get off the field on third downs. That’s not doing a rookie QB any favors.

It’s pretty simple to me. Hey, let’s see if Darnold can turn it around, otherwise bring in a proven vet or draft a rookie into an infinitely better situation next year.

This obviously bothers Justin Fields fans.

Yeah very good point, they went with what they had while addressing another major need (cb), and passed on the 4th QB in this draft. I mean just as bad as Teddy not having a 4th quarter win in his many opportunities, getting off the field on 3rd down might have been our biggest issue. Horn helps fix that issue more than any other player they could have drafted. So they passed on the 4th QB to address our arguably biggest need. Rhule has already said that Darnold let’s us go BPA in the draft and that’s what they did.

Exactly. The “acquire a QB at all cost” crowd thinks the coaching staff and front office  thinks 100% that Darnold is the guy, just like they thought Teddy would be.

I think the staff knows/knew damn well that that Teddy/Darnold may or may not be the guy. They are just waiting for the right time to bet on a more sure thing.

Yeah, at the end of the day none of us know what’s going on behind the scenes no matter what the journalists feed us. Unless one of these posters are really Rhule, Fitts, or Tepper all we can really do is speculate based on what’s “leaked” to us.

Exactly. Unless you have the preponderance of all media sources agreeing on the information, it may or may not be accurate. 

Cherry picking news/information is the sickness of modern America. I see it has settled into the sports world now

We're not talking about sources vs other sources here. We're talking about actual sources vs fan on the internet speculation.

I get you are attached to your sources and believe them to be gospel, regardless of what anyone says. We'll just have to agree to disagree on their veracity.

Plenty of “sources” claimed we were interested in drafting a QB with the 8th pick, including our very own GM. That was shown to be inaccurate from our “behind the scenes” video. Also plenty of stories will get leaked or released to us fans to push team narratives. These teams have a professional team of PR people that know what they are doing. Claiming one is exactly how it happened and dismissing others seems a bit naive, that’s all...

Hence the word "smokescreen".

Breer isn't a team person and he got his info on the Darnold story from the Jets as well as the Panthers.

You want to disbelieve the story? Feel free, but suggesting that a bunch of internet fans with no inside access at all have a better handle on what really happened is just plain dumb.

      Can't keep pining for what never happened....but for god sakes, DeJean, Frazier... and we got this dude in a R1 trade up.  The most notable blunder of this era, that's for sure.

      Overall, fine.  Wish we landed a guy to pair with Lloyd but I presume this means they're giving Trevin one final year to put it together (72nd overall 2 years back).  Flashed potential year 1, had a dud last year.   R1: Freeling LT - Great value and a need; landed our new long term LT that could end up starting off the bat.  Icky had a terrible injury and is not playing in his contract year.  Walker is what he is on a 1-year rental, who even knows how he fits. You get premier OTs early if you can find em' and he has what you want.  I thought he could have gone as high as 6/CLE pre-draft, so am a big fan of the selection.  Looking at this class, he's one of the guys at the top that is like "okay that's the LT".  Others have this right/left or G/T type discussion about them.  Freeling is an LT.   R2: Hunter NT - We didn't really have anyone replacing A'Shawn's snaps in our rotation.  Wharton & Brown aren't 3 downers so adding Hunter to the mix fills a big void. I dug deep into S and LB this draft so was a bit to zeroed in - In recognize the value and impact add in the trenches. R3: Brazzell WR - Intriguing.  Given our history, I don't really want to place any expectations here, but a different style weapon for Bryce. I pretty much expect a WR drafted yearly with this regime. Other notables.. Hecht C - These are the type of rounds where starting centers have been found.  We got a starter for this year, but Hecht seems pretty capable and I like it for a long term find.  SOLID AF.  Wheatley S - A pretty well regarded safety prospect.  And we see it every year (like this one) safeties get hyped, people think they may go sooner than expected, and the league reminds them how it rolls.  Plenty of nice safeties have been found in the 4th-6th in recent years.  Big fan of Wheatley. Can't say I know enough about Lee or the others.
