I think they'll do both -- make it an add-on, available only to Prime members, but at a cost point that really makes it a no-brainer to tack it on (and cheaper than what DirecTV was charging.   Especially if they make it available as team-specific games for an additional $50 vs Get All The Games for $100, folks will pony up. Add on whatever advertising they can muster along the way... and it'll be a cash cow.

Plus, considering the number of people who are already Prime members, I could see the NFL looking at this as a way to practically eliminate* illegal streaming.  Once legit music streaming services came out, that pretty much ended the majority of the illegal music pirating world

I could see the same happening here: the more/easier it is to get what you want legitimately at a reasonable or accessible price, the harder it is to justify using an illegal service.

I'm not sure that the two concepts (music and football) completely correlate.  I used to "illegal stream" music but once I could get legit music for free thru an app there was no reason to do it anymore.  What you are suggesting isn't giving people free football.  Its an additional service fee people have to pay (prime membership).  Just looking around in my orbit, the people who are pirating illegal streams for movies and sporting events aren't the type of people that tend to buy things like prime memberships.  They find work arounds.

I think the team specific thing has been an elephant in the room for a long time.  It would be a huge uptick and sign ups if someone could work it out.

I don't know how you guys stream.

Plus why would I want to watch on a computer or laptop?

This was an issue like 10+ years ago but if you are freezing at this point its because of the internet you chose.  Also, there are lots of options on how to get the feed onto the television because of smart TVs and HDMI hookups to different devices.  On a typical football Sunday I typically have the TV going, my PS, my phone and my tablet to access different games in different ways.  Other than the first 15 or so seconds while it buffers I sometimes forget whether my TV is showing the cable feed or whether I've switched the input and its my PS that I'm watching.  Years ago the PS feed would be a little grainy and choppy but not anymore.

This week's rumor mill suggests that Sunday Ticket *might* be available for streaming for anyone for a discounted price for the rest of the season.

As always, your mileage may vary, but it may be that DirecTV may be trying to cash in before the Sunday Ticket rights go to someone else in the next contract negotiation.

Try the tips posed in this news article that explains the situation, and let us know if you're successful:   https://www.nexttv.com/news/the-nfl-quietly-takes-sunday-ticket-dtc-and-ott

(of course, the article's been updated to suggest that perhaps some mistakes were made... but maybe you'll luck out if you try????)

Doesn't matter to me because where ever they go, I will be plopping that bread down for my beloved NFL.

This is why nothing in the NFL *ever* changes.

If Cam comes back strong?  Count on more un-called head (or other cheap) shots.

CUZ I NEEDZ MY NFLZ!!!

Let me buy my NFL for a few hundred bucks each year. If I need to subscribe make it a small fee and NOT a contract.

Why in the hell would you want to be charged $300 a year for something that shouldn't really cost you? The sponsors are the real customers and they will pay the NFL only if the ratings dictate it.

About a month ago I went ahead and "cut the cord."  I had the student rate for my Sunday Ticket ($99/year) and it was taken out in monthly installments.  It was tied to a credit card that expired and I forgot to update my billing info.  DirecTV instantly terminated my entire subscription and closed my account.  I called the day after getting the "sorry, your payment could not be processed" to get them paid and update my CC info but they said that was not an option.  WTF?  Per usual I spent over an hour on the phone being passed around to different agents with no positive end in sight.  It reminded me of when I was a DirecTV customer.  There wasn't a single call I made to them that lasted less than an hour.  They are terrible to deal with and their systems are wack.

At any rate having that happen ticked me off so bad I went ahead and bought a streaming box and cancelled my regular cable as well (Cox).  I will never buy Sunday Ticket from DTV again.  If another company picks it up I will consider it.  But I will never deal with DTV again.  I'm over it.

What ruined DTV was the ATT purchase of it

prices went way up, customer service and technical support went way way down.

att is fine until something goes wrong and with technology something always goes wrong

The SD mode vs  HD at least keeps the signal on much longer during thunderstorms or heavy rain than previous but we do live in the storm alley of the East Coast

The NFL wants to go with the broadest subscriber base possible.  Apple doesn’t have it.  Amazon would be a better choice since they’re already streaming TNF with success. Prime Video is also available on more technology platforms. Apple TV is hard to get unless you’re already inside the Apple ecosystem.

ESPN is definitely in the mix. Disney wants to drive subscriber traffic to ESPN+ (to shore up dropping cable fees from cordcutters) and use Sunday Ticket as an add-on

Used to be the case but most smart devices these days have an Apple TV app.

    • I think i like the Oregon Safety better
    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
